There are a few reasons why I liked this book about the first day of school. The first reason I liked this book was because of the plot. The plot relates to every person in this world who has experienced a first day of school, and also prepares children who haven't had their first day of school. "My first day of school I hopped out of bed and dressed in my best, from my toes to my head!" Here children get the idea of looking their best and being prepared for school. The second thing that I liked was the authors use of language throughout the book. The language was in a rhyming pattern that I felt made the story more appealing to read. "At school, there were children going every which way, all shined up like diamonds for their very first day." This patterned language keeps the reader entertained while they are reading. Lastly, I enjoyed the illustrations throughout the book. Although they were hand drawn, I felt that they portrayed the real world very well, and helped readers to see what a school might look like. In conclusion, I think that the 'big idea' of this book was to teach children that the first day of school should not be scary. The first day of school is exciting and school is a place where you can learn new and interesting information. ( )
