I got this Kindle book as a freebie back in 2012, when I wasn't as cautious about those free Kindle books as I am now. I thought from the title that it would be a fantasy involving the ancient Greek gods a la Percy Jackson. A few pages into it, I had closed the book, deleted it from my Kindle and gone to my Amazon account and deleted it from my library. The author may call this story "romance" but it is poorly disguised porn with the added insult that it is badly written. ( ) Really this book fell under the 1 star (did not like it) category, but I reserve my 1 star ratings for books I can't finish, so it eeked up. Let me start this review while saying this book is not horrible, but it is most definitely not for me. Don't get me wrong, I like Paranormal Fantasy, but this is far from representative of what I like about the genre. In 3 words: stereotypical, predictable, anti-climactic. Triton is a philandering, sex-maddened sea god. Sophia is a gorgeous woman who of course doesn't trust good looking men because they always cheat on her. He's just been kicked off of Olympus for his philandering, she's just inherited a house she can't afford and a pissed off cousin out to get her. Triton needs a woman to fall in love with him for something other than his looks. He of course falls madly in love with Sophia, who secretly thinks she's mad because she once saw his father Poseidon in his half-fish get-up. I love mythology, and am an avid Greek mythology fan, but this book doesn't do the gods justice. It captures their shallowness but none of the intrigue, the greatness of the heroes, or the adventure of those myths. My biggest issue with this book is the cliche. It's every poorly executed romance ever. Boy goes from philandering to suddenly only one girl is for him. She rebukes him, then is suddenly thrust into his company 24/7 and of course falls madly in love. He's madly in love, but thinks he's got in under control. Back and forth as to whether she'll give in to him. He does weird creepy stuff, to hit on her and we're supposed to find it sexy. The word pussy and cock is used a lot. And I mean a lot. I'm not a prude, but it's just annoying. I personally think the word pussy is a particularly horrible term for the female genitalia, so that got old for me quick. His friends are annoying and I have not desire to read other books about them. The climax is supposed to circle around the storm bearing down on them that Triton can't control because he's lost all his godly powers until a woman loves him. So, finally we have a dead line. At least I assume it's the climax. It barely gets any mention, no real stress about it, he concludes there's nothing he can do and then suddenly in about 2 sentences problem solved. WTH. So, if you like your PNR as shallow as your characters, here it is. No deep thinking, complete and utter escapsim, albeit boring escapism and HEA, you've got it. For some of you that's exactly what you're looking for so happy sailing! If you like it deeper, with a strong heroine, rugged, worthy hero, tight story line and sex that knocks your socks off, this ain't it. Which brings me to my final complaint. I saw a few complaints about the sex and "erotica" in these books being a bit strong, I assume because like me they got it for free, didn't read too deeply and assumed they knew what they were getting into. For me the sex was just as stereotypical and boring as the rest. Nothing exciting, and I never found anything steamy, in fact I got so bored I skipped parts. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
