A little disappointing. I've read a lot of Crane's poetry since being introduced to him in AP Lit. I've been an avid fan - he is by far my favorite poet. But I've never tackled a complete collection of his poetry. So I was excited to do so.

But it looks like I had already read the best of it, & I didn't find much new that grabbed me as he has in the past.

Still, this may grow on me. I'm sure I'll pull this off the shelf from time to time. ( )

This is a volume from the American Poets Project. They all have excellent editor's introductions and a short biographical sketch of the author. They are short and compact books, easy to carry around.
This book consists of two books of poetry published during Crane's short life and several uncollected poems. The word that keeps going through my mind about Crane's poetry is modern. They reproduce the drawings that were in the published books. They are in an art nouveau style which contributes to that idea.
I like Crane's poetry very much. He uses words quite uniquely.

You tell me this is God?
I tell you this is a printed list,
A burning candle and an ass.

I have read many of the poems several times and they didn't lose any of their impact with repetition, which is very unusual. I have only started reading poetry recently and book has really increased my appreciation for it as an art form. ( )
