The collected works of one of the most American of playwrights. Williams writes about the south, and does it without undue romanticizing or painting the south as one great big misunderstood wonderful group of people. He catches nuances and subtle differences, and creates memorable characters in memorable situations. Although few people today have seen more than one or two of his works (Glass Menagerie is probably the only work currently being done with any regularity), his portfolio is packed with interesting works that could impact audiences today. Read them chronologically - you can see the changes that occurred in his style as theatre shifted. He was willing to shift with it, developing more modern characters and adding post-modern touches to his works. Recommended, especially for people interested in the history of American theatre.
