This is a book that follows a mouse on a journey to the kitchen for a snack. The problem is that there is a big orange cat somewhere on the way, and Nibbles the mouse is very scared to run into the mouse. He ends up mistaking things like a pillow and a scarf for the cat. What I enjoy about this book is that it is a simple enough story that I believe lower grades could comprehend what was going on. There is also a small aspect of repetition so those that are low level readers could pick up on it and join in on the reading. This book could also be relatable to many students if they too get scared easily at night. ( ) Squeak the mouse was afraid of everything. He never would leave his home under the stairs. His sister Nibbles tells him about a delicious looking cake in the kitchen and convinces Squeak to come along in spite of his biggest fear Ginger cat. Squeak if worried he may get lost on this big adventure. Nibbles ties string around him to help ease his fear. As the two scurry through the long hall towards the kitchen Squeak jumps with fear at every turn. He just knows that Ginger cat is lurking in the shadows. Their first encounter is an orange and white scarf. And then eyes peering at him in the darkness. “It's the cat! It's the cat!” he cried. “Don't be silly,” said Nibbles. It was just a toy kitty. As they make their way to the kitchen they encounter various scary objects, but no sign of the cat. You will have to finish the story to see if Squeak and Nibbles make it to the kitchen to get their prize, Cake. You will also have to finish the story to see if Ginger cat finds them. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
