For anyone who enjoys Amish fiction, this is not the book or the series for you. I was unable to finish the entire book. I did skip through and read bits here and there - enough to get an accurate picture and the book is just not for me.

The writing is not at all realistic of the way the Amish speak or behave or interact. It's more like someone wrote a "Christian" novel and threw in a few Amish words and phrases to make it work. The writing itself is not bad and I probably would have enjoyed it so much more if it had not been for the major inconsistencies.

For example: The Amish do not complain like we do. Jacob might have been a bit disgruntled but he would not have gone on for half the book about how unfair it all was. And I know Becky's mom would NEVER have challenged Daniel over something so silly as a dinner. That's not the way Amish women are. It's the way we English are though so I can see where the author might not have realized her mistake.

I had planned to finish the trilogy but I don't see that happening now.

My suggestion: if you decide you want to read the book anyway, check it out from your local library. ( )

Very easy to read and interesting..have to wait to the end of story to really know what will happen......enjoyable reading. ( )

I probably liked this more than 3 stars but not 4 stars worth.

Jacob was sent from Pennsylvania to help out distant amish relatives for the summer, or was it part of a bigger plan?
Right from the beginning you could 'feel' the chemistry between Jacob and Becky. Of course there were many (too many?) obstacles that had to be overcome. I loved how many times they went to Mcdonalds though.

I also felt there were a few things that went unanswered - now I know there is another book in but I am not sure if it talks about these characters, guess I will find out when the book arrives and I start reading it. Annie? Mathew? Naomi's baby? Jacob and his dad? Kent?

Cathy just never sat right with me, it was very odd, the role she ended up playing in this book. I am still shaking my head on that one.

Becky Troyer has returned to her Amish community after having a baby and being unwed. She is still being shunned and is very lonely. However, her world changes with Jacob Miller arrives to help out on her father's farm. His father has sent him away for the summer to distance him from his sweetheart, Susie. Becky and Jacob find themselves being drawn together.

I was attracted to the title, but there really wasn't any quilting involved. However, I enjoyed the story very much. Having read a lot of Amish fiction, I'm trying to find ones that are a little different. This one fit the bill, as Becky already has a child and fears no one will ever want to marry her. I think this is the first Amish book that the characters go to McDonald's for anything let alone cappuccino. In fact, it seemed like the characters in the book were always drinking coffee, no matter what the time was. ( )
