Ellis is one of my favourite writers in comics but the oversimplification of "Africa" as savage wasteland is unbearable. Add that to truly disgusting art with absurd proportions that could only have been drawn by someone who has never met a woman... I couldn't even make it through the first issue. I am sad to own this book and thoroughly disappointed with Ellis and Marvel for it's execution. ( ) If I could give this minus stars I would. The writing is racist and offensive. The artwork is hideous and offensive, especially in the portrayal of Emma. Look at the cover, times that by 100 and imagine the awfulness on the inside pages. Unfortunately I own this copy and now have to sell it knowing someone else will then have to read/look at this steaming pile of shit. The writing's fun (when it isn't awkwardly pontificating about recent African history) as one would expect from Ellis, but the artwork's very hit or miss. Some of it is quite pretty, other things are distractingly silly and charicatured, especially in the portrayal of certain characters (Emma Frost is a charicature enough in her normal look, this pushes it far too far to even pretend to take seriously (not to mention undermining the typical ice queen lines Ellis gives her by having her look and act like a pouty teenager) - and N'Dingi is not much better). I like the themes of the story, though, the moral grey areas are reasonably well explored for such an action-oriented and brief narrative. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
