The author of the best-selling Emily Windsnap series spins a gripping tale about a girl who stumbles into the futureâ??and must change its course to save a friendship.

Jenni Green's family vacation has finally arrived! Even though she has to deal with her annoying little brother, her slightly overbearing dad, and her very pregnant mom, she gets to spend a week with her bestest friend in the world, Autumn. But twelve-year-old Jenni's world turns upside down when she takes an old elevator to visit Autumn and discovers that everything has changed: not only is her friend in a different condo, but tragedy has struck Autumn's family, Jenni's mother has had her baby, and everyone is a year older. When Jenni realizes that the elevator caused her to skip a whole year, she tries to go back, but soon finds that fixing things won't be as easy as pressing a button. How can she alter the past and keep her family and Autumn's from falling apart? With honesty and insight, Liz Kessler explores how the bonds of family and friendship can endure through time.… (meer)

Well, this was a disappointing read after "When the World was Ours". I was tolerating" A Year Without Autumn" at the start but when the timeslip/magical element was introduced, I lost all time for it! Twelve-year-old Jenni annoyed me and Autumn wasn't much better. As for Mrs Smith . . . !!!!!!

This novel definitely wasn't for me. ( )

Cover gave me the wrong impression. ?áIt takes place in August, not Autumn, and the friends (one of whom is named Autumn) don't actually get to spend a whole lot of the book being happy with each other. ?áThat being said, I?á ( )

Jenni and Autumn are best friends. They are more than best friends, they are the best friends that could ever be. Two hours apart and there are a million and a half things that have to be said to each other. And here on their holidays they can spend as much time as they like together. And even though Jenni doesn't really want to go horse riding, she says yes, because she goes everywhere with Autumn. So why aren't Autumn and her parents there when she goes to meet them?

This is an enthralling tale of what happened next, of unexpected consequences and of things that might have been. I simply could not put it down. The characters are vivid (especially the 'not-friends'!), the family situations are all too real, and the cumulative effects of disaster on happy normal lives are all too painfully rendered.

And just when you think it's all going to work out happily in the end...

It's a real page turner, resonant with the uncertainties and vitally important issues of early teens. A brilliantly conceived thriller in the guise of a friendship story. I loved it. ( )

I love time travel. This was a good example of the genre. It was a quick read. The characters were very real. I think this would be a good book group selection. It really made me think and I wanted to share my thoughts with my friends. ( )

What if your life fast-forwarded a year? Or two? What if you figured out what made that happen and could reverse it? Would you attempt to make changes to your life? This book explores the lives of best friends Autumn and Jenni. When tragedy strikes, can Jenni find a way to make things right? I liked the idea of this book, but some parts were confusing and not all that believable. ( )
