Raised on a cattle ranch, Agnes Morley was sent to Stanford University to learn to be a lady. Yet in no time she exchanged her breeches and spurs for bloomers and a basketball; and in April 1896 she made history. A wonderfully illustrated story of the first intercollegiate women’s basketball game and how it paved the way for the future of women’s basketball.

Basketball belles is a great read for young women who do not feel like they can accomplish very much. It shows that no matter what society says, you can accomplish anything and you can change your environment simply by trying. This is not a book for people interested in basketball, but is geared more towards women's empowerment and history. ( )

I thought the book was enjoyable and told very nicely, but I don't really understand the point of introducing Agnes if she wasn't really important to the overall story. I understand that she was on the team and it was special for her, but we didn't really gain anything from Agnes introducing herself and background herself. ( )

An adorable book based on the first women's intercollegiate basketball game. A young woman, Agnes Morley, sent to Stanford to become a lady has a different idea of what a lady is then her mother does. She play basketball and she loves it, and today she makes history. The story keeps you on your toes through the grueling first game ever played by women in college. It also includes a nice timeline in the back of the book of the progression of women's basketball. I am not a huge fan of basketball but I absolutely loved this book. The biography told how one of the first baskeball ball games went like and how the team had won. I would've loved to be cheering at that game as I did for the ones in high school. I am happy that women have the opportunity to do the same sports just like men, and even better. ( )
