Astounding quality for an indie book!

Great character, good plot development, and I loved the romance!

Also, there were many references to things I love, like Buffy and Evanescence, and that certainly didn't hurt.

Honestly, my only issue with this book were little clerical errors. For instance, the 'Tweedle' in Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum was spelled incorrectly. Some punctuation errors. some other things.

So, despite the fact that this was extremely good for an indie book, i hold that those clerical errors COULD have been fixed if it had been read through and edited by the author a coule more times, so that takes it down half a star.

Also, while this book was good, it was good FOR AN INDIE BOOK. Indie books are just plain old lower quality then traditional published books, so my rating of the book was around four stars to begin with, so my final rating is 3.5 stars.

This is a piece of brilliant fiction, a major yet pleasant surprise. Because 1. The heroine is someone I can actually stand, she sticks up for herself and others but isn't a martyr either. 2. I was just as torn up about her choice of hero as Scout, which is a hard thing to make me do! I either love or hate them. 3. The story could have been my own high school experience, it was so realistic...well besides the whole shifter thing ;) 4. Charlie, Alex sometimes and even the hulky Liam were just plain yummy... ( )

I know, I know, I stick my nose up at stupid heroines and silly romance novels.... but I liked this book. So sue me, I enjoy a good paranormal romance once in a while too.

This book was pretty much all about Scout finding out about the Shifter world and getting together with Alex, despite interference from Jase and Charlie. There. I summed up this book in one sentence. Not bad, right?

Haha, but in all reality, this book was fairly simplistic in terms of plot and world development. Honestly, most of this stuff has been done before. Shapeshifters, a girl brought into their world, Seers, a small town, a forbidden romance. Y'know. YA paranormal romances. It's common.

But I did like it. Predominately because Scout's voice is forthright and sardonic. Blackwell does very well with first person perspective. It makes the book. I really appreciate her wit. I genuinely laughed a couple times.

The love triangle made me roll my eyes a little because argh you know how these things go. Stupidly. That's how. But I was only a little mollified because Scout doesn't leave them hanging forever. Unfortunately, I severely disagree with her reasoning in her "choice". Just because someone dreams of you does NOT mean you are "fated" for each other. What a stupid word anyways. Fate is a boring way to make a plot line happen.
Luckily love doesn't really need reason. And I'm just glad it ended the love triangle. Until.... y'know, the end of the book.

Yeah, the end was super lame. I really believe that the character death is either false or completely pointless. Either way, if it is true or just a juke, I don't like it. If it is true, it makes the entire book pointless and most likely extends the stupid love triangle again. If there's going to be a plot twist in the later series and he is magically alive, then this whole scenario is a pointless way to string the readers along. Dislike.

As for the plot, there's really not that much to say because not much happened. Hm, I guess I wish the information of Shifters and pack structure were more incorporated into the story, rather than just told in a Q&A.

Three stars. A good book that satisfies my guilty pleasure cravings for paranormal romance. It takes a plot that's been done before and does it well again. It's better in the beginning than the end. It falls into sappier cliches towards the end. But still a fun book to read.
Recommended for PNR fans. ( )

As you can see (5 hearts!) I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story took some time to build up, but the more I read, the better it became. Till a spectacular, unexpected, heartbreaking end. A real OMG NOOOOOO ending. This story ended in such a terrific, unbelieving and devastating climax. I really needed tissues at that moment, so I recommend keeping some nearby when you’re reading it ;)

Scout is the perfect heroin. She’s got the right amount of self-mockery and humor. It added even more to the pleasure I felt while reading the book. She made me laugh out lout often. Especially with her tendency to fall into numerous embarrassing situations. Which was quite familiar for me, since I too have little brothers who seem very innocent, till they open their mouth. Angel was so hilarious! I absolutely adored her ^^

I liked that the build up of this story is slow. The time that passes isn’t a couple of weeks, more like months. This makes the story more credible and gives you room to breath, or process the information you just received. And it gives you plenty of time to think of many things that could still happen, of what really is going on ^^ But this time, I couldn’t be more wrong and I loved it! This book doesn’t follow the usual YA path, instead it takes you somewhere else! However, I’m not going into the story further. I believe this book is something you have to read for yourself, it’s that good. I don’t want to spoil things for you by accidentally giving away spoilers ;)

There’s only one little thing that bothered me, but only a bit and it’s because of my reading history. My “problem” was with the fact that Scout liked two boys at the same time. Normally I read a lot of books where there’s only one soul mate. And you’ll only fall in love with said soul mate. That aspect wasn’t used in this book, so it took me some time to return to the normal human world, where humans are not perfect and it’s possible to fall in love with two guys at the same time. Which means Scott has to make a tough decision. Who will it be? To be honest it was Scott’s best friend who reminded me of this. Something I’ve never really though about before, obviously, since my usual feelings for girls who manage to fall for two guys at the same times aren’t really that great. But from now on it will be different: as long as the girl in question makes that choice, which Scott fortunately does, I’ll be understanding. Otherwise it’s still two-timing in my book, which is a big no-no for me ;)

Conclusion

5 HEARTS. As I said, this story is so awesome, I don’t want to spoil a lot, so it’s better for you to find out by yourselves ;). This book is definitely worth reading. It has a great heroine, a lot of humor. An adorable little sister, who manages to embarrass big sis every time she opens her mouth and so on, and so on. It gave me a whole new look on the “two-timing” problem. Next time I’ll try to be more understanding for girls who find themselves in love with two guys at the same time and have a hard time deciding who to give their heart to. But I still envy them a little…. Two guys… I have enough trouble already with finding just one! ( )
