There are curses, Biblical-style plagues, and murder. I'm prepared to find that entertaining, but I was a little bit frustrated at Jane Seymour's characterization. She's the protagonist and narrator, and I felt that she was strangely inconsistent. One minute she's plotting the downfall of Anne Boleyn, then she seems to completely have forgotten about the whole thing. She starts going on about how she has fallen madly in love with a particular person, and I had to actually flip back to find the place where she met him. It had seemed so insignificant at the time that I had completely missed/forgotten. I don't mind the craziness - I enjoyed it, to be honest - but I couldn't get a handle on what sort of person Jane was, and that really bugged me. I thought it was interesting to read this book after having read several other Tudor novels, because the contrasts are fun. I don't know how I'd feel if I read it without that context.
