Onderdeel van de reeks(en)Nimrod International Journal (46.1)
This issue features the winners and finalists of the 2002 Nimrod/Hardman Awards: The Pablo Neruda Prize for Poetry and The Katherine Anne Porter Prize for Fiction. It also includes poems and stories which highlight a fact that might seem obvious, but is too often forgotten, that, of necessity, writers inhabit many worlds at the same time. There is, therefore, no retreat to the ivory tower, no allowance in the name of "poetry" or "fiction" (those words spoken in an elevated diction, as if ?we know what that is? or ?we know what those people do?) for ignorance of the political and cultural fabric, for rejection of the idea that the world of the family claims us, and the worlds of history, world affairs, work, visual art and science.
