The Booklink, Looking for Home, is an individual unit based on the book, Looking for Home by Eileen Berry. It is intended to enhance and enrich the basic reading curriculum. It includes a pocket folder with directions for enrichment activities and a teacher's guide with carefully planned lessons, enrichment activities, and reproducibles. The goal of this Booklink is to provide reading instruction and experiences that broaden and deepen the ability of students to know, comprehend, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate what they read. This goal is met by a focus on scriptural applications that help build character discernment, reading strategies that help develop higher-order thinking skills, activities that foster an appreciation for literature and the enjoyment of reading, integrating reading with other subject areas, and the following enrichment experiences: planting, making a kitten out of home-made dough, a treasure hunt, making a bug-catcher, enjoying frog on a lily-pad shaped snack, a Grandparent Share Day, and an opportunity to share sentimental objects with others. Looking for Home is designed to be used by first graders at the end of the school year. It can be used by a small group of advanced readers or an entire class. The story is about Liz and Micah who have just moved to an apartment building from their home in the country. They are sure there is buried treasure in their new yard. But just as they set about digging, the notice someone. Is she a pirate in disguise? Will she get the treasure they are looking for, or will they find an even better one?
