This book would be good for students who are in second or third grade and are reading independently. The book is about a kid who is a very picky eater and his father tells him stories to convince him to eat the foods that he does not want to try. This book could be used with students who are just getting into reading on their own as the pictures provide a lot of support. Also because the book is broken up into four short stories so the content would be easier for beginning readers to understand as it is in smaller chunks. ( ) James is a picky eater who won't eat foods like broccoli and "smelly lasagna" but his dad has a way of convincing him to eventually eat them through telling him he can eat other things like a "very sweaty sock" or that a troll makes the lasagna for him in the basement. In the end, James decides to try slimy eggs without his father's made up stories. This book is about a young boy is is a very picky eater. He decides he does not want to try foods that his Dad has made for him, such as oatmeal, because they look funny, smell weird, etc. In an effort to get him to eat these foods his Dad offers him outlandish alternatives.
