The 4th book in this series has the whole crew back in NYC, and trying to solve some mysterious murders. We get the usual menagerie of Mages, Vampires, Demons, Werewolves, Fairies, Nymphs and any other "dark races" who inhabit New York - and lots of action. This book clearly sets up the series finale, so expect some loose ends at the end. But there is a pretty dramatic twist that I didn't see coming. The main story line remains the pending peace treaty between the races, but the recent murders may end up making peace impossible. Sabrina, Adam and a new vampire from LA are tasked with solving the murder in time for the peace treaty to move forward. As always, Giguhl the familiar/demon/hairless cat upstages everyone with his story-line. Now that Demon Fight Club is shut down, Giguhl is putting together a "dark races" roller derby team. He's also continuing his relationship with Brooks/PussyWillow (or PW) who has come to New York to expand her singing career. Lots of Giguhl and PW drama. 2.5 stars This book was disappointing. I really didn't like the way Sabina handled a lot of things and she was way too judgmental for my liking. I've come to the realization that Adam is not the one for her. He doesn't truly accept her for who she is and that is bothersome. The situation with Maisie was handled poorly as well. I felt the book was too long and dragged on. Things starting picking up toward the end, but it wasn't enough to save this story. I'm just glad the next book is the finale of the series. 3.5 stars. When I started this series, I had mixed feelings about it. I really like the world building and the backstory of the dark races, but Sabina just grated on my last nerve. But now four books into the series, Sabina has grown and evolved- definitely good character development. She's not my favorite paranorm heroine, but that's what I've come to like the most about Sabina, that for a heroine, she wasn't automatically likable. She had flaws, in fact quite a few, which ended up making her more real for me. She didn't start off being the awesome heroine that you wanted to root for, but she's definitely grown in that direction, and the growth has had a solid basis in the overarching storyline. With each book I pick up in the series, I'm finding it harder and harder to put down until I finish it. As for this book, it did have a slower pace. And that was okay because the slower pace gave Sabina time to breath and reflect a bit. While I was a bit shocked at Sabrina has sister issues. Her sister tried to kill her boyfriend, which makes family time uncomfortable to say the least. She wants to fix her broken sister, to have the love she has always dreamed of, and it shows. Her desperation in this book seems endless. Her sister is not dreaming, being the oracle it is required on more than one level. The Dark Races are on the verge of signing a peace treaty and her vision could make or break it. But, can anyone bring her back to who she was? The relationship between Sabrina and Adam has some rough ugly spots. It stems from lies and hidden truths. There is a touch of a triangle going on and I was voting for the other team. Adam disappointed me with his harsh views. Giguhl was a hero and a friend. He stood by Pussy Willow and Sabrina throughout all the troubles, and their were many, He also found a new hobby roller derby, supernatural style. This didn't really work well in the story for me. It slowed the story down and was not very interesting. Ah, but Mr. Giggles is the hero of this story in my humble opinion. Just wait for the ending. I enjoyed the story, but struggled through the first half. It just meandered through her daily life and did not hold my attention well. The next book is the end of the series and might be the reason for the slow down, it's ending. It does finish with a bit of a cliffhanger. I am excited to read the next book and finish this series . geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
