I use to love this collection when I was younger, but a lot of these cartoons have not aged well. ( ) A lot of classic cartoons from the longtime New Yorker artist. The two drawbacks are that most, if not all, seem to have been taken from other collections, and the quality of reproduction is not ideal -- some of the cartoons are (in the literal sense) dark. As opposed to the pitch-black humour you'd expect. This book contains many of Charles Addams' most side splitting visual gags - often imitated, but never bettered in my opinion. The humor is dark, very often macabre; such as the uncomfortable atmosphere in a taxidermist as a frightened man senses he is at risk of becoming the next exhibit; or the husband coming home early to find his wife trying on her mourning outfit. How about the couple witness a man jumping off 'Lover's Leap' to which the wife angrily queries "Why don't you ever show me you care like that!". Others you don't get right away, such as one of my favourites; little Wednesday and Pugsly Addams lovingly stoking a roaring fire in the chimney the night before Christmas. Theses gags have been selected from his books 'Drawn and Quartered', 'Addams and Evil', 'Monster Rally', 'Homebodies', 'Nightcrawlers' and 'Black Maria' and are a fair representation of his work. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
