It does always annoy me when storytellers don't highlight how clever the goats are being when they convince the troll to let the first two goats pass over the bridge. This retelling says the little and middle goats are afraid and basically beg the troll to eat their big brother. No honor among goats, I guess. The story is so much more fun when you realize they're tricking the troll into facing the one opponent who can beat him. Bah. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

This is a classic story of three billy goats that want to visit greener pastures. They know the eating is better in the greener pasture but they have to get past the troll that lives under a bridge they must cross to get to the pasture. Each goat tells the troll that the next goat is a better meal. The final goat has to stand up to the troll since he does not intend to become a meal. He head butts the troll and the troll falls off the bridge.
Personal Reaction:
This is a classic story and in my personal library. This story is a favorite of my grandchildren. It is a story that is timeless in the lesson off negotiation and bullying. The goat voices are fun and the children love to imitate the grumpy old troll.
Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. Discuss with the children what they would do in this situation.
2. Have an art project where the kids draw the bridge and the troll. Then use pictures of goats to depict the goats travel. ( )
