This book is an informational text that talks about the ebs and flows of the life growing in reefs. The book uses student friendly language and is descriptive. As a reader, we learn that reefs form over millions of years and they are home to a wide array of species. We learn about predator and pray. Many “pray” species take refuge in the reef. This book is detailed in the process that take place within the reef and the nearby ocean. After reading this, students will know about life cycles and the positive relationship that reefs have with the ocean. The book ends with an explanation about threats to the coral reefs and a call to action. Students reading this book will not only have more factual and scientific knowledge, but will be informed about their environment and the choices can make to protect it. ( ) Coral Reefs: A Journey Through an Aquatic World Full of Wonder is a great book for students who are exploring the world under water. This book follows a girl who picks up a book in the library called Coral Reefs, and falls into the book. As the author explains coral reefs, the young girl is traveling through the sea and witnessing what she is reading about. The author is very knowledge about coral reefs. This book discusses how coral reefs are animals and not plants, the different fish and sea creatures that call coral reefs their home, and how they survive. This book would be a great read in science. The students could pick a topic in this book and create their own representation of it, using the books illustrations as a guide, and also their own research. This children’s book is a very appealing and informative story. I liked this book for a few reasons. First, I liked the illustrations. The author is a well-known illustrator and the illustrations popped out, and were bright and colorful, enhancing the story a lot. Second, the language is very descriptive and informs the reader of a lot of facts on coral reefs. For example, “Coral reefs are home to thousands of plants and animals. There are so many species living in reefs that they are often called the cities of the sea.” Personally, that was new fact for me. Finally, I like that it is a straight-forward non-fiction book, the facts are very accurate and a reader can learn amazing facts on coral reefs. The big idea from this story is to teach facts on coral reefs, by also presenting them with beautifully drawn images. I love the dimension of this book so much. In "Coral Reefs", the young girl presented picks up this book about coral reefs and literally falls into the book. In the back of the book, there is more information about coral reefs. That is one factor of a children's book that I always admire. "Coral Reefs" gives very accurate information and representation of coral reefs, something that is important for children to learn about that is crucial to marine life. It is very visual and connects the text with the illustration in a very unique way. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
