In the end, all that's left is an Echo.

Before, Violet's morbid ability to sense the dead led her to uncover dark murders and long-buried secrets in her small town. Now that she's working with a special investigative team, Violet hopes she can help even more peopleâ??whether by saving a life or catching a killer.

Although she's relieved to finally be honest about what she can do, her instant connection with her mysterious partner, Rafe, is both confusing and unsettling, and their unique bond creates tension with her boyfriend, Jay. When she discovers the body of a college student murdered by "the collector," Violet refuses to give up on the case. With her own relationship on the line, Violet doesn't realize that the serial killer is looking to add to his collection and that she may have caught his eye. Will the life Violet has to save be her own?… (meer)

DEAD SILENCE REVIEW:

As always, Kim Derting's book does not disappoint.
So the body finder series comes to an end--at least for now, I hear.
First, I love that so much of it takes place in and around MY area... Buckley, Lake Tapps, Beer Bottle Beach, White River High School (I can literally be at Lake Tapps in about 3 minutes). I always love it when books are set in places I've lived, or places I know. You can't help but feel more connected to the story, right? So many of the places around this area are absolutely perfect for this series. Eerie, creepy and mysterious.Speaking of eerie, creepy and mysterious...can we talk about the killer in Dead Silence.... WHAT!! His POV scenes were creepier than fuck. Agree? Agree.
I have been reading some of the reviews of this series and am REALLY surprised at all the people that didn't like Rafe's character. I really liked Rafe. I thought the author did a good job integrating him into Violets life. I love Jay too, but seriously the guy is too good to be true. He's a little too perfect. I felt a connection to Rafe right away even though I do love Jay.There's really nothing negative I can say about this book. I wasn't super fond of the ending just because it was supposed to be an ENDING and (SPOILER) I feel like it left a HUGE opening for more books (yay!). Also, Chelsea.... Here's why I don't like Chelsea: Rafe. I want Rafe to be with Violet. But I want Violet to be with Jay and Jay with Violet. It's a mess, you see. So when there's a possibility for Rafe and Chelsea to be together, I was all NO. But, If Rafe is happy...I guess it's okay.

GREAT SERIES. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. ( )

I almost gave this 4 stars for sentimental reasons. I do like Kimberly Derting and will continue reading her books-I'm just a bit worried about the direction the series is taking, and I was frustrated with how little BFF and BF interaction we got in this book. So, 3 stars it is, and Kimberly Derting, if you can hear me, please don't do what I think you're going to do in the next book!

Jay is pretty clearly getting edged out of the picture. I know most people don't, as a rule, stay with their first loves forever, but there hasn't been a book yet where these two sweet characters don't have something working against them. How about letting them be happy for a while so the main conflict is the scary stuff we love so much-the murderers and whatnot-instead of constant poking at the young lovers? How about giving Jay more than 10 pages or so to compete against Rafe's 200? (no I didn't count) So in the next book, we're not only moving toward a love triangle (hate) but now Violet has to lie to her best friends, boyfriend and family, because their lives are in danger if she doesn't. What's that about, anyway? Is the shrink messing with her or would he really do it? Violet often made perplexing decisions and regularly blew off her normal friends in favor of her "freak" buddies. Didn't seem consistent with earlier characterization and didn't do much to endear her to me. I was glad she rescued herself in the end, although the ongoing echo concerns me-how will she not go crazy?

On the bright side, this was still a page-turner. I still love the idea of the books-the body finder stuff is cool. I just miss some of the characterization I saw in the first two books, especially the first. The romance with the actual boyfriend felt halfhearted, like what Derting really wanted to do was get back to vulnerable bad boy Rafe. Do I like vulnerable bad boy Rafe? Yeah, but I love Jay, and he was missing for way too much of this book. Even in the scenes when he was there.

Here's hoping I'm totally wrong in my predictions and the next book surprises me. I would like that. ( )

Instead of being focused on Violet's relationship issues (although they were still frequently addressed), this entry focused on her work within the group of other psychics. It was interesting to see this through her eyes as she tried to understand the people and their powers around her. What she is allowed to do as a teenager, even within this "special" group, stills stretches the bounds of believability, but not so much as the last volume. I'm hoping the next book doesn't dissolve into an exploration of a love triangle, but I am looking forward to reading it. ( )

Working with the group at the Center was Violet's chance to make a difference, a chance to use her gifts to help others, and a chance to finally fit in. Despite not being welcomed by all members with open arms, the Center was the one place were Violet didn't have to hide what she could do, or who she truly was.

Violet's skill was finding the dead and those who had murdered. What she couldn't do was find a killer before he had killed, but there was a chance that others at the Center could. And for Violet's sake they would have too, for although working at the Center was dangerous, it could be more dangerous to stay away.

The Last Echo of a life may belong to Violet, an echo that would be carried for the rest of a life. This murder mystery introduces new characters and new challenges for Violet and her unique gift. A new story that continues where the last left off, and one that fans of the series will enjoy. ( )
