Here's what I wrote in 2008 about this read: "OK, a quick read that taught some good history regarding the final wife of Henry VIII, Catherine Parr. She was scholarly and a good stepmother to his children, and risked losing her life in his court, too." ( )

I really liked this book. It was told from the pov of Catherine Parr-the last wife of king henry viii.
The author took quite abit of license with accepted historical fact-for instance she has her first husband as her age when history shows both of her first 2 husbands as having been older men. However, she was a strong and likable protagonist-I was drawn into the story and really cared about what happened to her. It is also tragic in a way because she manages to outlive Henry and keep her head-towards the end he makes half-hearted attempts to have her named a heretic-only to marry Tom Seymour who uses her for her money and status. In the end she finally gets pregnant and dies in childbirth while her husband has gathered an army against his brother Edward who is King Edward's Protector until he comes of age. Again-the end differs somewhat from accepted historical fact-but she was interesting and even managed to write and publish some books for women on prayers and what not while she was queen. ( )

Dumped it! Did not like after only 2 chapter.

Kuigi ilukirjanduslik teos, on autor siiski kompetentne ajaloolane ja teab, mida kirjutab. Kirjutajana pole kah mitte kehva. Kui sisemised läbielamised kõrvale jätta, siis täitsa kena ülevaade Henfi VIII naistest Catherina Aragonist kuni peategelase, Catherina Parri lõpuni välja. Autori ameerika päritolu on teda sundinud tooma 16. sajandi alguse Inglismaale kalkunid ja maisi, mida seal ehk keegi juba näinud oligi, kuid kindlasti igapäiselt ei kasvatanud. ( )

Easy to read & well written...but I swear I've read this before.... but it might have been some other book about Catherine Parr..... After a while they all run together. ( )
