caimanjosh: Both of these series feature great characterization, good writing, and a bare-knuckle, realistic approach to fantasy, as opposed to much of the high fantasy work out there.
Vooral het begin was heel onduidelijk en kwam ik maar moeilijk in het verhaal. Ook de gedachten van de personages die tussen de tekst werden geschreven maakte alles nogal moeilijk leesbaar. ( )

Dit is het verhaal van de beruchte Logen Negenvinger, de Held van de Unie, wiens geluk eindelijk op een einde lijkt te lopen. Hij verlangt naar rust, maar moet in plaats daarvan voortdurend vechten voor zijn leven. Het is ook het verhaal van de eens machtige zwaardmeester Glotka, nu kreupel, en martelaar (uitvoerend) voor de inquisitie en voor niets meer bang. En van Bayaz, een kale oude man die de Eerste van Magiërs zou kunnen zijn, maar besluit Logen te helpen in zijn strijd tegen Bethod, Koning van het Noorden, die behalve hem ook de Unie aan zijn kling wil rijgen...
