Pretty enjoyable book, more of a “beach read” kind of thing. Simple and easy with a lot of red herrings thrown in to throw you off the case. ( )

The mystery is well plotted and the characters are likeable. However, the pace could have been better. I find the beginning to be a bit slow, and there are not much happening for the first half of the book, except introducing the characters, which makes is less suspenseful. A surprising but not 'trick' ending. She develops each character enough to give us a clue as to the inner workings of their minds, & not only a mystery, but the story of a family that has survived a lot of agony but still held together by caring for each other. Vor fünfzehn Jahren wurde Ninas Vater wegen Mordes an seiner Frau schuldig gesprochen und kam ins Gefängnis. Jetzt wird er auf Bewährung freigelassen und kehrt in die kleine Stadt Hoffman nahe New York zurück, die damals Schauplatz der Bluttat war. Nina ist immer von seiner Unschuld überzeugt gewesen und will ihm helfen, wieder ins normale Leben zurückzufinden. Doch ihre beiden Brüder, der eine ein erfolgreicher Investmentbanker mit eigener Familie, der andere ein ehemaliger Junkie, halten mißtrauische Distanz zu ihrem Vater.

Auch die Einwohner von Hoffman sind ihm gegenüber zutiefst argwöhnisch. Die Eingliederung in den Alltag erweist sich als schwierig. Dann wird der Vater tot in seinem Wagen aufgefunden - anscheinend war es Selbstmord. Doch daran glaubt Nina nicht. Sie beginnt die Vergangenheit zu untersuchen, um herauszufinden, was damals, vor fünfzehn Jahren, wirklich passiert ist. Dabei läuft sie Gefahr, selbst das nächste Opfer zu werden ...
