better than i expected. don't let the pinkness of the cover fool you - to me this book looked to be aimed at women but i quite enjoyed it. am now more interested to read more by marieke in frankie or wherever her pieces are published. i found the way she makes everyday, normal scenes really interesting very appealing and quite enjoyed most of the pieces. While this will probably not have the same level of influence on Australian society that Marieke's grandfather Frank's "Power Without Glory" continues to have, Marieke includes more titillating references to her sex life in this book and thus I enjoyed it more. ( )

An entertaining and funny read. I saw Marieke's personality shine through in every part of the book. Confronting at times, I imagine that the more prudish would find themselves blushing or disgusted in parts of the book. But, it reminded me strongly of my younger years in Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, so I wholeheartedly embraced the entire experience Marieke takes the reader through.

An interesting account of life so far by one of Melbournes quirky social commentaters, who so often has her finger on the pulseof independant thought.
