"16 year old Eden Matthews has been in and out of private schools for the last two years. Kingsley is her last chance to finish high school and she is determined to simply do that. But when she meets Kiran Kendrick and her world opens to something she thought only existed in fairy tales, she's unsure what her future will hold. Suddenly she is captivated by a boy who seems to be the source of all of her problems and struggling to rescue her best friend from a foreign prison. When attempts are made on Kiran's life, Eden alone must save him. Thrust into a world that is more make-believe than reality, Eden has to find her own destiny without losing those she loves most. Reckless is an intricate story of mystery, adventure, magic and love. Eden Matthews is an unlikely heroine set on a path to save the world and her loved ones before its too late"--Back cover.… (meer)

I do love this series, clearly by how many times I've read it however I will change my rating from 5 to 4 only for the simple fact that it really does have some editing issues and sometimes the main character can be way too naive and annoying but if you continue the series it does get better. (at least for me it did).

This book just gives me the nostalgic vibes when I get in a reading slump or I can't decide what to read, this is always my go to book to get in that reading mood.
It's fun and yes frustrating at times because as I stated above the main character can be so naive. It doesn't help that everyone around her doesn't really help because they continuously keep her in the dark.
In Reckless Magic, we are introduced to Eden, a 16 year old girl that is starting another school after weird things happened at previous schools that she couldn't explain. We get to find out what those weird things are, on top of starting a new school and being told about her "specialness", Eden has to deal with Kiran Kendrick who can't seem to stay away from her and keeps getting her into trouble because she is being told to stay away from him (when will people learn this is the essence of forbidden fruit that teenagers can't stay away from each other). Then the one friend Eden makes is taken away and here begins the unraveling of her background and this story.

I like the magic aspect and the teen drama isn't unbearable for my liking. Again this was a fun read for me. I recommend if you like books like Twilight, Crave, or shows like Charmed, for me this gave me those same vibes. ( )

Partly interesting and partly infuriating. I would like to have continued the series to find out what happens but there is just too much that is aggravating. ( )

Some parts were fun and the world building had potential. There are many plot and character inconsistencies to overcome as well. The climax and ending didn't pace well.

Aside from many eye roll inducing moments, still a light, enjoyable read. ( )

This gets my minimum 2 star review for being able to finish the book. There were however very, very serious problems with this book.

1. Basic copy-editing errors, mostly with homophones. I counted at least 4 instances where "you're" should have been "your," passed and past getting mixed up, etc.

2. Repetition. For example, the reason that the overall level of magic in the world is decreasing is explained in exactly the same way, multiple times, with no further elaboration. Another example: the principal brings the main character in the office at least twice to have the exact same conversation with her.

3. Poor plot development. There's no reason given for the secrecy that the main character is subjected to. This is difficult to do well, and it's a common literary trope because it allows us to learn along with the main character; but the author uses this device without ever attempting to explain it. There's also absolutely no development in the relationship between the main character and her main love interest whatsoever. She's just in love with him for no particular reason, just off the bat.

Personally, this last factor is a big issue for me, because objectively speaking there's absolutely nothing to Kiran to recommend him. I just can't get into a book where I'm supposed to enjoy a romance with an empty-headed pretty face with no moral compass. ( )
