Fiction. Literature. Thriller. Historical Fiction. HTML:For lovers of thrilling adventure and grand history, the bestselling co-author of the #1 New York Times bestseller The Dangerous Book for Boys has written a magnificent novel with a hero for the ages: the legendary, visionary conqueror Kublai Khan.

A succession of ruthless men have seized power in the wake of Genghis Khan’s death—all descendants of the great leader, but none with his indomitable character. One grandson, Guyuk, strains the loyalties of the tribes to the breaking point, and another, Mongke, brutally eliminates the opposition and dispatches his younger brothers Kublai and Hulegu to far-flung territories.

Hulegu displays his barbarity with the savage destruction of Baghdad and his clash with the Khan’s age-old enemies, the cult of assassins. But it is Kublai—refined and scholarly, always considered too thoughtful to take power—who will devise new ways of warfare and conquest as he builds the dream city of Xanadu and pursues the ultimate prize: the ancient empire of Sung China. His gifts will serve him well when an epic civil war breaks out among brothers, the outcome of which will literally change the world.

BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Conn Iggulden's The Blood of Gods.

Conqueror is as real as military fiction gets. Conn Iggulden’s story of one of history’s most ferocious and brilliant warriors is full of lessons for our warfighters today.”—Gunnery Sergeant Jack Coughlin, USMC (ret.), New York Times bestselling author of Shooter and Kill Zone: A Sniper Novel

“A rollicking, dangerous and often very gory gallop through the largest land empire the world has ever known.”—Sunday Express (U.K.)

“A thrilling journey, rippingly told . . . Iggulden’s most satisfying to date.”—The Daily Telegraph (U.K.).

Too violent ( )

A pretty good ending to the series. The last book kind of drones on a bit, but overall it works. I think the author took more liberties with this volume than the others in order to tie things up. He explains in the notes why decided to end it where he did. We are already familiar with Kublai and his time as an older man. So I tend to agree with the writer. This novel tended to have a bit more filler than the rest but was still very well written.

Some things just make me say "Wow." And this book is one of them.

I was sad realizing that I would not be reading anymore of the Genghis and his family. And then I accidentally tripped over the fact that Conn Iggulden would be writing a 5th book. Hooray!

This one centers around Kublai Khan and his rise from a young scholar to the leader of the Mongols. It's bloody long with some really bloody parts.

In the book Kublai did look so noble and heroic, almost perfect, compared to the decadent Guyuk, uncouth Mongke, and the misguided Arik-Boke that it bordered on a Hollywood script. He lacked some dimension compared to the other central protagonists like Julius, Brutus, and Genghis in Conn's other books.

But the book is not lacking drama and action. It's a grand book. ( )

A great ending to a great series on one of the great civilizations of the world. Amazing book telling of how the Mongol leadership changes hands and battled their way through enemies using strategy, speed and the almighty bow. Definitely a great series to read. Can't wait for the next Iggulden series, where will he go next? ( )

Enthralling culture/way of life - formidable nomadic war hosts so readily accepted as the nation's daily norm while also recognizing the benefit of a stationary city AND the ability of a woman to rule. Need to explore the avenues of westward expansion into the Ikhanate of Persia/Iran and eastward expansion into the Yuan Dynasty. ( )
