So, I think the main issue of this story is having a stutter/not being able to pronounce certain things. BUT there was also bullying involved, so the message got a little lost. I thought the message was good, but overall kind of a confusing set up. Once the Capybara got involved things got a little confusing. ( )

Rodney cannot pronounce his R's. Though the book does not directly say so, I think he is a bit embarrassed about it. You would never realize how many instances you have to use R words until you read this book and put yourself in the shoes of Rodney. Camilla is the bully at Rodney's school and she makes fun of almost everyone. Camilla is actually very smart but she does not use this for good she uses it to bully her classmates. Rodney gets a robot in the beginning of the story and it repeats everything he says but, even when he doesn't, it pronounces his R sounds for him! This makes Rodney confident enough to stand up to Camilla the bully. I think this is a great book for kids because many kids have this same problem. Lots of kids have trouble pronouncing their R's, have a lisp or a stutter, or have trouble with other letters and words. It can be very discouraging but its important to show them that they are still great and intelligent and can get through it. ( )

Camilla Capybara, a big bully, makes poor Wodney and his classmates tremble, but this time, Wodney has a secret weapon: a robot that repeats everything Wodney says and seems to be just the thing to scare Camilla away for good.

Cute classic overcoming-a-bully story with a robot and a stutter thrown in for good measure. How can you go wrong! I think Preschoolers and older would enjoy it. ( )

I enjoyed reading this story because of the plot, the characters, and the writing style. This story is about the adventures of Rodney Rat, who pronounces his name as "Wodney Wat" because of his speech impediment. For his birthday, he receives a talking robot that helps him pronounce "R". The plot was engaging from the start because it was interesting to see how the robot would actually work in Rodney's favor. I liked how the characters in this book were all animals. The main character Rodney is a rat, there are hamsters, grizzly bears and even lions. The animals are all students in school which helps engage the reader into the story. The writing style in this story is very engaging. Everytime Rodney's robot pronounces "R" the text is very big and bold and looks like: "RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!" Through this writing style, you can just imagine how loud the talking robot is based on the text. I believe the big idea/message of the story is about bringing awareness to those with speech impairments. ( )
