An outstanding crime fiction novel, the first in the Jessica Daniel series by bestselling author Kerry Wilkinson. Read by Becky Hindley. When a body is found in a locked house, Detective Sergeant Jessica Daniel is left to not only find the killer but discover how they got in and out. With little in the way of leads and a journalist that seems to know more about the case than she does, Jessica is already feeling the pressure and that¿s before a second body shows up in identical circumstances to the first. How can a murderer get to victims in seemingly impossible situations and what, if anything, links the bodies?… (meer)

I'm super happy I found a new series to read! I have a huge addiction to thrillers and this one was just up my ally it is included in the kindle unlimited subscription and is definitely worth the time.
The Killer Inside features Detective Sergeant Jessica Daniel. She has recently received a promotion after her superior was stabbed and left the force. Soon after, she is called to investigate a murder. A woman has been found dead in her home but without any signs of a break-in. It's disconcerting when all the windows and the doors are found to be locked. The police had to break in the door to get in. Sadly, no one in the neighborhood has seen anything important. When another body is found dead in a similar way as the first victim and no door or windows are unlocked, Jessica starts to suspect she is dealing with a serial killer. Of course, it doesn't help when someone from the police station starts leaking information to the press and her superior believes it could be Jessica. To make matters even more stressful for her, her roommate and best friend seem to have found a guy she wants to keep and the closer their relationship becomes, the more uncomfortable Jessica is around them. She doesn't like to be the third wheel.
I enjoyed the whole story. I liked Jessica a lot. She was determined to find out the truth about the murders and give the families some peace. She was smart enough to connect the dots and figured out more than anyone else what was making the killer tick. She had a good working relationship with the rest of the police staff too.
I was surprised at how much I ended up liking her with Garry. I loved the way she tortured him about his jacket. Every interaction they had after the first time they met had a funny element.
I want to see more of them together in the next book. ( )

No, this really isn't very good. Look: Kerry Wilkinson has had a novel 'published' and I haven't, and in an appendix here he writes modestly and charmingly about this achievement, for which I applaud and congratulate him. But now it's not a matter of encouraging an amateur, but appraising a professional.

DS Jessica Daniel is inoffensive enough, but it has to be said that she's boring and she's stupid. Large chunks of the text follow her following obvious dead ends, and one can only hope that the author is desperate for padding; the alternative, that he thinks he is being thrilling, is too sad to contemplate.

The seemingly eye-popping premise, that the murderer somehow manages to leave his victims locked in their homes really isn't so surprising in these days of Yale locks, now, is it?

On consulting (for heaven's sake) a stage magician - who strangely isn't called Jonathan Creek (why not? We all know it's him) - Daniel learns an important lesson about misdirection, and at the denouement, the murderer admits that his 'plan' was to misdirect the police to focus on the amazing fact that the doors were locked, rather than uncovering any link between his victims. Really?

Research looms large in the text. Mr Wilkinson has been in a police station, and in a prison; no doubt he's consulted a stage magician in real life, too.

Regarding subplots, the edgy relationships, between police & journalists and between police & lawyers are both much better done by Stuart Macbride.

I struggled to finish this, which I did in the increasingly certain knowledge that there would be no surprises before the end. I was not disappointed - which was disappointing.

But then again, it was only £0.74. ( )

A good police procedural book with likeable characters and a good storyline
The first half of the book spent a lot of time introducing the characters and not a lot on the plot, I felt this could have been better balanced ( )

I really enjoyed this book by Kerry Wilkinson! I enjoyed reading about Jessica Daniels and how she managed to solve a very difficult case. Jessica is a very determined and independent woman. The story line kept me wanting to read more. There were several plot twists throughout the book that were very shocking. I am definitely interested in reading more of this series, in order to find out what happens with Jessica.
