Brianna is working as a housekeeper to support her niece. She claims to be married to David Paxton, a name she made up to discourage the man she works for. When the multitude of letters she had written to her fake husband reach a real David Paxton, he comes to find the woman, convinced that he might have conceived a baby with her on a trip to Denver. He's ready for a wife and family, but Brianna distrusts the situation for multiple reasons.
It's an unusual situation and a good story. It fits in nicely with the rest of the Coulter Historical series and adds to the repertoire of interesting characters. ( )

Solid historical read. Appealing hero and heroine. Different historical period than we normally have the chance to read about. The author took a familiar type plot and made some unfamiliar choices having to do with the heroine's honesty. I enjoyed it. ( )

3 Stars, Good historical novel, but...

LUCKY PENNY
by Catherine Anderson

The author writes good historical novels, but I don't care for the interjected expletives throughout. In this particular novel, David, the leading male does cuss a lot, but there are vulgar sayings interspersed at unexpected times. The novel would be a perfect 5 stars without the vulgarities.

David, a confirmed bachelor received a bundle of letters from Brianna, the single mother of Daphne who works constantly to support herself and her daughter. In the letters, Brianna and Daphne beg David to come to rescue them from their poor circumstances, claiming that David is the husband and father of the two females. The only problem is David doesn't recall ever getting married or fathering a child. He determines to rectify that, so his ladies don't suffer from his neglect. #luckypenny #historicalseries ( )

Lucky Penny by Catherine Anderson
Story is about a women and her daughter. She works for a local rancher and he's wanting to marry her and have more kids but she tells him she's married to David. She thinks David Paxton might be at a mine in Colorado and she's sent him letters.
She gets no replies but a man with the same name shows up and claims the daughter as his own-maybe he was drunk one night and took her for his own. He never knew the girl existed.
He files for custody and it goes to court and the judge ends up marrying them. There are many instances of a penny throughout the book that really bind this whole book together in such a caring way.
Brianna is shocked when Daphne, her daughter announces her mama and papa are now married and she is SO happy.
Love their connection with the birthmarks but he just can't put on where he knew her from.
David is such a caring person and has worked his way into the girls heart.
She plans to make a run for it after they've left town on horses. He's onto her and will keep an extra eye on her. When you find out what their real relationship is you will be surprised. For now she must act like David is her husband...
She finds him so resourceful on the trail and he's very knowledgeable as to the herbs and plants
he's put into the rabbit stew. Having only themselves to entertain they are able to talk about their pasts for many days.
Love how the penny keeps reappearing in the book!
They come to an agreement when traveling on the train to his hometown. She will run a dressmakers shop and he will stay there and travel to and from his ranch. She had stipulations but just wanted love.
By them keeping secrets from one another it will eventually cause harm to them both...
Love the sex scenes, so tender. ( )

Have enjoyed this series very much, and Catherine Anderson is one of my favorite historical romance writer, but this one was a disappointment. Hope that the author gives the last brother in the series more thought and can make it as interesting as the first three. ( )
