A definite improvement on the first book. The writing still isn't perfect (though much improved), and a lot of the characters are still pretty irrational (what's the deal with everyone just letting Andross do whatever he wants when he's clearly nuts/totally powerless?), but the story picks up in this book and that really carries it through. ( )

UPDATE 9/2/2016: 3rd Times the charm. It earned another star. So looking forward to the next ones.

UPDATE 5/28/14: I must have been in a bad mood the 1st time that I read this book. Or maybe I was pissed at yet another cliffhanger book. I won't take back my review from the 1st round but I will add that at the end of the book this time, I let out an 'f' bomb. You know "This book was ------ great!"?

(9/14/12)I'm not sure I'm happy with this one. IMO, there wasn't enough development although a lot of stuff happened. I feel like either it should have ended sooner or been extended a few more chapters. It just stopped.

This is not to say that I wasn't glued to this book enjoying every minute. It just made me wish I could wait to read the entire series all at once.

This is probably the most tepid review for a 4-star book that I've ever done so I guess I'll stop here. ( )

Awesome second book of a series. After the first, I could have gone either way, but this had everything I felt the first was lacking. Plenty of character-driven story archs for those of us who like such things, without sacrificing the action so many love. Can't wait to see what's in store in book three!

Definitely give this series a shot. You won't be disappointed! ( )

This is an amazing read. I really love this series. The worldbuilding is great, some actions surprise me even though those actions are still logical from the character's point of view. The whole magic system is amazing and I really love the characters. They are showing growth and emotion and make some good and some bad decisions. They feel real. This world feels real and I am gonna stop writing and move on in book 3. ( )

Part of my Lightbringer re-read, still enjoyable the second time! Compelling characters with some unexpected turns in the story. Epic fantasy that keeps building!‬ ( )
