I don't do dangerous.

Smart, über-careful, ordinary Samantha--that's me. But I just couldn't pass up a surprise kiss from my number one unattainable crush. A kiss that did something to me...something strange. Now I feel hungry all the time, but not for food. It's like part of me is missing--and I don't know if I can get it back.

Then there's Bishop. At first I thought he was just a street kid, but the secrets he's keeping are as intense as his unearthly blue eyes. If he's what I think he is, he may be the only one who can help me. But something terrifying is closing in, and the one chance Bishop and I have to stop it means losing everything I ever wanted and embracing the darkness inside me..

Bishop – angel sent from heaven to protect the city and kill soul stealers.
Samantha-- teen girl who finally gets a kiss from a boy she’s interested in, only to have him steal her soul in the process.

Samantha is special (of course, she’s the heroine in a YA novel.) After her soul is stolen, she ends up helping Bishop find the other angels and demons on the team who have been sent to cleanse the city of soul stealers. Sam spends quite a bit of time going back and forth between places and people getting information to try to figure out who she should trust. I got a little frustrated at her. Sam’s friendship with Carly is strong and true, something that was nice to see in a YA novel. The girls bickered a bit but didn’t suddenly hate each other. The ending sets us up for the next book in the series, but doesn’t leave off with a total cliff hanger.

I’d say buy this for a crowd who can’t get enough series like Lauren Kate’s Fallen or Becca Fitzpatrick’s Hush, Hush.

NetGalley ARC, series, fallen angels, demons, YA romance, adoption, dance club ( )

When I started reading this, I wasn't sure how I felt about it. There are so many angel and demon books out there that they begin to blur together. I thought this was going to be one of those. By the time I finished reading Dark Kiss, I was glad I didn't judge it next to the other books. This one shows just how dangerous a kiss can be.

I don't want to reveal too much about the events, but I loved the characters. Sam is pretty dull until one night she decides to live on the edge a little. Upon doing so, she starts acting on impulse without thinking about the consequences. Even though she gets herself into some sticky situations she manages to think positive and believes there's a solution. She's extremely loyal when it comes to her best friend, Carly. Those are two qualities I love in my heroines. Carly is loyal to Sam, and does not take well to people mocking her. Next we have Bishop. He is tall, blonde and blue eyed. In other words, totally gorgeous. :) At times he is completely whacked out and can't keep his thoughts straight. There are reasons for this that you'll have to read to find out. ;) He seems to only be worried about his mission, but meeting Sam changes things, sort of. Kraven is your typical bad boy. He's sarcastic and a jerk most of the time. I can't help but absolutely love his character. He is definitely my favorite in this book.

The only complaint I had is that the author tried to set up a possible love triangle toward the end. I don't think the story line needs it, but I'm curious to find out the reasoning for this in the next installment.

Dark Kiss is fast paced and hard to put down. I was completely intrigued with the plot line, and pulled into their world. If you are a fan of angel books, I definitely recommend this book. ( )

I like this book. I adored Angel books. A LOT. This is uh... new to me. With that whole thing. I actually thought that Sam is a Nephilim. But no, she's not. Much more to that. Oh, yeah, it reminds me of Sweet Evil. :P A spoiler? Well, this book is published way back. So I guess you all know what she is.

Anyway, I like how Rowen made the story. How it was crafted like that. But I got just some issues with it... But knowing me... I can't remember it all. LOL.

I wanted to know more. What is up with their past. Bishop and Kraven that is. And I want to know more about Sam. What will happen to Carly. I want to know about her father too.

I like Samantha. Rowen did a good job on the characters. It got me gripping my seat while waiting what will happen. Then again, I spoiled myself by looking down first then read the upper lines next. LMAO.

I don't know what to say but good job on this. 4.5 stars. :) ( )

oooh, oooh, oooh. A must read for all you angel/demon lovers out there. I can’t wait for you all to read this!!! An outstanding start to this fab new series. This novel was written in a beautiful, yet dark way….and I loved it. I hope I can review this spoiler free and at the same time do this novel justice.

Samantha is approached by her long time crush who wants to kiss her. He asks her first, and of course she says yes since it was Stephen, her massive crush. But this kiss, amazing and intoxicating as it was, changed Sam’s life as she knew it forever.

The first change is the insatiable hunger that won’t go away as much as Sam eats. As Sam tries to make sense of the hunger she wanders around, but ends up stumbling across a confused and dazed Bishop. He is extremely gorgeous with cobalt blue eyes, but just so out of it. He seems so incoherent until they brush against each other. This brief touch seemed to make his thoughts unmuddled, and at the same time the touch feels wonderful to Sam. Sam doesn’t know what to make of him, but she knows has a physical draw to him that she can’t explain. Unfortunately Bishop is tight lipped and gives her almost no information. Sam should hate him, but she doesn’t, she can’t. Even thought she isn’t sure if she should trust Bishop with the little information he gives her, she makes a deal with him. I can’t say any more otherwise it will spoil it for you ;)

The secondary characters are great, my absolute favorite is Kraven. He is definitely on the dark side, but I’m convinced there’s a lot more to his story…ahhh, I love to love the bad boys. Sam’s best friend, Carly, while an important secondary character, didn’t affect me either way; I had no major love or hate towards her. I also still think there’s more to Stephen, the long time crush that put Sam in this situation in the first place.

Without giving anything away, this novel built layers and layers of stories that all intertwined, but it was done in a way that was effortless. I am a lazy reader and don’t like to have to think too hard; I like to sit back and enjoy the story. Well, that is exactly what I did here, Ms. Rowen’s writing is genius!

The ending left at a good place but is no way wrapped up. First and foremost the UST situation is serious. Very serious. Did I mention serious? gah!!! There really has to be a way around all of the “red tape” so we can get some loving. The next part of the story should really heat up now that the basic stage has been set and all the pieces are lined up. If you love angels and want a read that will keep you turning the pages you have to add this to you TBR pile! ( )

Here is the reason why I decided to purchase Dark Kiss as an E-book as oppose to the usual paperback. I received book two to the Nightwatchers series-Wicked Kiss-as an e-book galley review copy, and decided I would dislike having one in paperback and one electronic, so I bought Dark Kiss as an e-book, also.
Be it electronic or paperback, I am glad I got into this saga.
Samantha. She is a typical seventeen years old girl and a realist. As any other teenager her age, Samantha treks her way through high school, dealing with her parents’ divorce, friendship, teenage crushes, and just trying to get by. Everything was pretty average and normal despite her family issues …until one night where it all turned upside down; and it involves her long time crush and a hot and dangerous kiss. She then meets Bishop, a normal looking eighteen years old with attractive blue eyes, and everything just gets even weirder. An inexplicable darkness has befallen the city, and it
seems the mysterious boy with electrifying blue eyes knows something about it.
Angels, paranormals, and illicit love … what else can a YA fanatic ask for?
As I was searching for more information on Michelle Rowen’s Nightwatcher series, I was surprised to see Dark Kiss having such negative reviews (this is why I don’t base my decision making on what book I want to read next, solely on the book ratings). Yet, I can also understand why there are those who do not favor this read. There were a few times where things just didn’t seem to be moving forward, and rather than saying not enough was happening, it was more like things got repetitive. It however, did not stop me from liking the book.
The characters
If it is anything I like most about this novel, it’s the characters. Michelle Rowen made sure to give all her revitalizing characters an unfortunate back-story. It was amazing to find myself hating a character one moment, and then having sympathy and pity for them the next.
Would I recommend Dark Kiss?
I definitely would recommend it, especially for those who favor the “angels” and “forbidden love” theme (I am a sucker for them), and because I got a sneak peak of book 2 Wicked Kiss and it was just grand! ( )
