This informational text allows the students to understand what a teacher does inside and out of the classroom. This book is a good instructional tool for three reasons. For one the book offers not only written text, but labeled pictures. For teachers of ELLs or even kindergarten students, this books if a great teaching tool. The pictures allow the children to connect the word to the item. Not only are they learning the English language, but the words can be described as academic language. For example, the book states that students write in their journals for their teacher. Journal may not be in the students’ everyday notebook, instead it might be notebook. Another reason to use this book is because not only does it have labeled pictures that highlight words, but pictures that help the students create an image of what the text is saying. For example, when the book states “Jan drives to school.” there is a picture of her in the car with the school next to her. This is good for those students who cannot understand English well. The pictures are very direct and explain the story. Lastly, I liked the book because it describes a teacher’s day without making it complicated. This way students are not overwhelmed with information. For example, “The teachers have lunch together. They plan the schools show.” The sentences are straight to the point and uses very few words. The short sentences do not lose the students’ interest or does not overwhelm them. The one thing I did not agree with in this book is the use of the teacher name. At some points it would use “Ms, Hill” and at some points it would use “Jan.” This can be very confusing to the students, especially because most students only know their teachers last name.
