I really enjoyed the characters in this book. Lucky and Liora were two completely different characters sharing the same body, and oh, boy, did they dislike one another. Liora, the human half, just wanted to be a perfectly normal girl, while Lucky, the demon, wanted to kick butt and paint the town red. The switch between the two halves was well done, an the conflict between them was also believable. After all ... who wants to share?

I adored Bones, Lucky's (and it turns out Liora's) half-hellhound, half-incubus friend. I felt sorry for him, though, because he really did love Lucky and his Incubus half made that love impossible. After all, who wants a boyfriend who needs to seduce nubile young virgins every single night to keep that half dominant or he'll turn into a pure hellhound forever?

[*talk about your relationship going to the dogs! *]

The only person I didn't like was Kieron. He was too goody-two-shoes, too patient, too unbelievable, and too perfect. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, to find out he was evil, or had some redeeming character flaw, or something. It never came. All along, it felt as though he was using Lucky/Liora for his own purpose and even the big climax at the end ... meh ... it was almost anti-climatic.

So ... fascinating story ... looking forward to reading the next book in the series ... more Bones! But if I never see Kieron again with the Lucky/Liora shift, I'll be perfectly content. ( )

A Demon Made Me Do It – by Penelope King

This is one awesome read, Penelope King’s writing style was so easy to read her words flowed off the pages and had me hooked from the very first chapter. I found this novel very unique, you have two character’s with different personalities who share one body. The concept is different than a regular demon possession, the way the story is delivered you get to know the characters as individuals and see how opposite they both are. Penelope King is a fantastic author she has written this story about an individual character with two personalities and they live in two different worlds it’s like you get two for the price of one. I enjoyed this book so much I couldn’t put in down and was shocked when I realized I was near the last page.

So we are introduced to Liora and young woman attending her senior year of high school and cannot wait to be finished with it. She doesn’t understand why she even has to attend due to the fact she shares her body with a demon. Liora has one friend and its hard on them both as Liora is never around in the evenings and the excuse of not leaving her blind grandmother alone at night does make her friend wonder. Lucky who is the Demon half of Liora, only comes out at night, she is a kick ass demon who loves to hunt and kill other demons but her main goal or passion in life is to find the demon that killed her best friends? Liora and Lucky share a body but they are very separate people so when Kieron walks into their life’s and falls for Liora or is it Lucky things get really interesting. Kieron holds some secrets himself and Lucky is not sure he can be trusted with Liora. And then we have Bones, Lucky’s best friend who is always there for Lucky and will do anything for her. Lucky knows she is in love with Bones but realizes that it would never work between them. I want somehow for this not to be so and I am pulling for Lucky and Bones to end up together. It puts another great spin on this story.

This is a great novel and if you’re like any of the others who have read it you too will rush out and buy Fire with Fire (Demonblood #2) as you want to know what is going to happen next. I would recommend this novel to anyone who loves to read paranormal novels.

Review originally posted on my blog http://ufreview.com/2012/05/29/a-demon-made-me-do-it/

I received a copy of this through the Read it and Reap program on Goodreads, so again thanks to the author and the mods for making this available. This is the second book I have had the opportunity to review from Penelope King and I really enjoyed the first one so I was really looking forward to this one. Truthfully, I found it painfully hard to get into. Liora/Lucky used to be one person and a curse has split them into two people sharing on body, Liora by day and Lucky by night with neither really aware of what the other is doing. Liora is your typical teen full of angst and Lucky was the opposite she kicked ass and hung out in a demon bar.

The problem I had with the book was each chapter alternated between Lucky and Liora and honestly I couldn't stand either character after awhile. Liora had way too much teenage angst for my taste she only wore black, didn't really have any friends until Kieron came along, and I will get to that in a minute that's a whole other level of creepy, for all her lack of friends and solitude she really didn't do anything interesting but whine "why can't I just be normal". Lucky was just as irritating only in the completely opposite way. Someone hurt her friends so she was going to kill them and kick the ass of everything between her and her goal. Again kinda cliche.

Now we have Kieron whose presence gives us not one but two love triangles...sigh. First Kieron is attracted to both Lucky and Liora and manages to spend all day with one and all night with the other...does this guy ever sleep? Then there is Lucky/Bones/Kieron, where Lucky and Bones have been friends forever and she loves him but they can't be together because of his nature. There is also this murder mystery running in the background of both Lucky and Liora that should have gotten more focus in the book and would have made it far more interesting to read, but hey that's just my opinion.

The book wasn't exactly badly written no glaring grammar or spelling issues it just didn't work for me. It has been highly rated on GR and Amazon. So if you think it might be your cup of tea give it a try it just wasn't mine. I highly doubt I will pick up any others in the series though.

2/5 Not really my thing. ( )

Thanks to Penelope King for providing this book in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Overview
This urban fantasy revolves around Liora Greyson, half-human/half-demon. She's trying to get through high school without her secret getting out, but being a half demon doesn't exactly make her Ms. Popular. The delicate balance between her two worlds are thrown off kilter once she meets the elusive Kieron Ambrose. Can she let go of her past and accept her future, or will her pain and anger seal her fate?

What I Thought
This is a witty, engaging YA novel. I almost don't want to label it YA, because I think some may dismiss it as too innocent or tame to read. It does not necessarily contain the graphic description of a bodice-ripper novel; but I it has just enough romance without being sappy and enough spice to steam reading glasses with the possibilities. The "dual" nature of the heroine was clever and made me feel for both aspects of her nature. I felt badly for her demon side, while still seeing the innocence of the human aspect.

The way King draws you in to both sides of the story is wonderful and entertaining. There are many different types of "demon" for even the most discerning taste, and hell-hound shifters for those who prefer their supernatural with fur. I really enjoyed it, and most definitely will pick up the next book. I'm eager to know what will happen with Liora, Lucky, Bones, and Kieron.

The few down sides... I usually can find something in nearly any book; but I have to admit, it was difficult with this one. There were minor formatting issues, I don't recall if this started in mobi format, or if I converted it. So there is always the possibility the problem lay with converting software. However, I did find, regularly, minor issues of the beginning or end of a word being spaced from the rest of the word. The other difficulty I had, was almost too much going on. I started to get a little confused in the higher action scenes. She created a very in-depth world but it became almost too deep for me at times. Not a problem for everyone, could just be a personal issue of mine.

If you enjoy paranormal, romance of the tamer variety, and don't mind YA I highly recommend picking up this book. For those of you who really want to have a spoiler- Stop Reading Now If You Don't- the dual nature of Liora (half-human/half-demon) reminds me of the old movie LadyHawke. ( )

This book is truly AMAZING! It is a twist of good/evil wrapped up in one! Penelope Kings makes a believable world of demons and humans that I would love to live in. I was hooked by page one and couldn't stop turning till the end. This series is something new and original!

Liora Greyson is sort of an outkast at her school, She likes to keep to herself because her life is anything but normal, by night she shares a body with a demon slaying Hot babe named "Lucky." Why? Because Lucky is out for blood for the killers who murdered her friends and also the demons that caused Liora's "Soul" to split in half into two; Liora not having any idea on whats happening in the demon world meets a guy named Kieron who is new in town and starts to hit it off with him and everything seems good. Liora's not the only one having the hots for a guy becuase someone shows up too in the demon world who happens to save Lucky's life, who is this mysterious guy and why does he seem so anxious to know so much about her? I don't know, you guys just have to find out and see! ( )
