He's a middle class man who inherits a title for military service. She's a widow he meets by chance. ( ) A solid regency from Mary Balogh. It's the start of a new series. There was not a high level of angst but there were some issues brought up that we are familiar with now and it was interesting to see them in an historical context: PTSD and bipolar disease. The interactions between the hero and the heroine were charming. Their relationship felt real. There was some out of wedlock nooky but it wasn't raunchy and superfluous. They were older characters and the heroine was a widow so their relationship was more relaxed than that between a man and a young girl making her comeout. The dialog many times brought a smile to my face. Better than many of her latest books for my tastes. Looking forward to the rest of the series. 3.5 stars rounded up. I found these characters likable, though they did act a bit foolishly from time to time. They're a little older than average, both in their 30s, which was nice. And both with issues from their past that they work through. They seem like they could be actual people and not just caricatures of some. It was a little difficult to keep track of all the survivors, meeting them at once, but once I had them sorted, I was interested to read their stories as well. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
