Fiction. Mystery. Romance. HTML:FBI agent Ford "Mac" MacDougal is recovering from injuries he received in a terrorist car bombing when his sister, Jilly, a medical researcher, drives her Porsche off an Oregon cliff - on purpose, it seems. Curiously, even though he was in a hospital bed on the other side of the country, Mac feels as if he were in the car with her as she sails towards the sea.

By the time Mac arrives in Portland, Jilly has come out of the coma she's been in for four days. But after only a few hours with her brother, she vanishes without a trace. In searching for her, Mac hears a different story from everyone he encounters. When the local sheriff enlist his aid in the puzzling murder of an elderly resident, Mac doesn't suspect that the case connects to his sister's disappearance. FBI agents Lace Sherlock and Dillon Savich (last seen in The Target) join Mac to ride shotgun.
Not knowing whom to trust and whom to suspect, they must escape relentless pursuers before unearthing the tentacles of evil undermining The Edge.

Synopsis: 'Ford MacDougal (Mac) first appeared in The Maze, at Quantico with Sherlock. Now Mac is flat of his back at Bethesda, seriously wounded in a terrorist car bombing when he dreams that his sister, Jilly, a medical researcher, drives her Porsche off an Oregon cliff. Only thing is, Mac feels like he's with her.
When Mac arrives in Oregon to find out what's going on, Jilly comes out of her coma, only to disappear a few hours later without a trace. In searching for her, Mac hears a different story from everyone he encounters, even from the local sheriff. And then there is Laura...a woman who fascinates him, a woman who could kill him if he trusts her.
When a local old man ismurdered, Mac doesn't at first suspect that the case connects to his sister's disappearance. FBI agents Savich and Sherlock (last seen in The Target) join Mac to ride shotgun. Not knowing whom to trust and whom to suspect, they must escape relentless pursuers before unearthing the tentacles of evil undermining The Edge.'
Review: This is another mystery/romance, although it is a good one. However, the romance is pretty predictable. ( )

Didnt like this book but I did the first three in the series and will continue on with the rest. One thing I dont understand it why she threw in a first person book in the series - none of the others were that way. ( )

In Coulter’s mystery novel, Max arrives in Oregon to find that Jilly has come out of her coma only to disappear a few hours later. As Max heads out to find her, he discovers that everyone has a different take on what really happened, including the local sheriff. When a local man is murdered, Max doesn’t initially suspect that it’s connected to his sister’s disappearance until the FBI joins in on the search.

Fast-paced, hard to put down. ( )

Ummm, I’m not exactly sure what to think about this book. I do love Catherine Coulter and I’m rarely disappointed in her books. But, this one makes me think she’s trying a bit too hard with this whole FBI series (which all starts with The Cove). The story is good. There are a lot of plot twists. I just not happy with the book. Maybe it’s the male first person point of view. Worth reading to get the whole series, but don’t try it as a Coulter first. ( )
