It was okay. The plot was boring for the most part and the characters were largely flat and one dimensional. It presents a strange, slightly sociopathic ideal of what it means to be the idea man. Some of the ideas I liked, I am not convinced this is as great a work as the objectivists feel, nor is it as atrocious as those who hate it portray it to be.
It is a strong critique at those who can't think for themselves and rely on others. It is also a strong critique at those who hate people who achieve great things. (

An awful, awful book; even more so when you consider how many people seem to treat it as a second, secular Gospel. Unlikable characters, terrible dialogue, and completely unworkable social philosophy... the list goes on and on. Since it is influential, it's helpful to read it, if only to understand the sheer level of nonsense that has to be accepted by Randites in order to make their ideas work. (
