This is just such a perfect story. With just a few pages, Giselle Renarde has created an emotional impact that some novels can only try to emulate - and never get there. The main characters, Lucky and Jasmine, quickly became like vivid, real people to me, and the strength with which they love each other is simply amazing.

Jasmine tells the story, and I was shocked at the disdain she meets when she brings her new girlfriend to Christmas dinner. The other family members are rude, to say it politely, jut because Lucky doesn't meet their criteria for an acceptable girlfriend. This is hard enough for Jasmine to swallow, but when they start telling her to get back with her ex, she loses it. Through it all, Lucky is supportive and patient and just imply perfect. When Jasmine finally has it out with her mother, all the bad stuff that has happened to Lucky emerges, and I was even more impressed with how well she held up. What a woman!

If you like seemingly simple stories that pack an emotional punch, and if you enjoy happy endings for characters who clearly deserve it, then you will probably like this short story.
