The Indian army is a large organization, and a handbook of this nature, to stay in its format, had to skimp on something. What it did concentrate on was uniform details, and unit names. It has very little on Indian military history, Maps, and technology. so, not perfect. But if one cannot find a copy of "So they Rode and Fought" by Maj. Gen. S. Shahid Hamid, a 180 page Hardcover book covering the Imperial Indian units, this is a good list and introduction to the cavalry of the Raj. There are the usual number of plates, and photographs, But sadly the Photos are in black and white. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

The British connection with India dates from the formation of the Honourable East India Company in the 17th century, when a military force was needed to protect Britain's valuable trading interests. By 1914, there were over 40 regiments of Indian cavalry, all of which were commanded by British officers. This book provides an overview of the component cavalry regiments in the years between the Great Mutiny of 1857 and the outbreak of World War I. Numerous contemporary photographs and eight colour plates offer a rare glimpse into the distinctive uniforms of the cavalry. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
