Fantasy. Fiction. Romance. HTML:#1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Marie Moning picks up where Shadowfever leaves off with Iced, the sixth book in her blockbuster Fever series.

The year is 1 AWC—After the Wall Crash. The Fae are free and hunting us. It’s a war zone out there, and no two days are alike. I’m Dani O’Malley, the chaos-filled streets of Dublin are my home, and there’s no place I’d rather be.

Dani “Mega” O’Malley plays by her own set of rules—and in a world overrun by Dark Fae, her biggest rule is: Do what it takes to survive. Possessing rare talents and the all-powerful Sword of Light, Dani is more than equipped for the task. In fact, she’s one of the rare humans who can defend themselves against the Unseelie. But now, amid the pandemonium, her greatest gifts have turned into serious liabilities.

Dani’s ex–best friend, MacKayla Lane, wants her dead, the terrifying Unseelie princes have put a price on her head, and Inspector Jayne, the head of the police force, is after her sword and will stop at nothing to get it. What’s more, people are being mysteriously frozen to death all over the city, encased on the spot in sub-zero, icy tableaux.

When Dublin’s most seductive nightclub gets blanketed in hoarfrost, Dani finds herself at the mercy of Ryodan, the club’s ruthless, immortal owner. He needs her quick wit and exceptional skill to figure out what’s freezing Fae and humans dead in their tracks—and Ryodan will do anything to ensure her compliance.

Dodging bullets, fangs, and fists, Dani must strike treacherous bargains and make desperate alliances to save her beloved Dublin—before everything and everyone in it gets iced.

BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Karen Marie Moning's Burned.

Praise for Iced

“Moning returns to the heady world of her Fever series, and the results are addictive and consistently surprising. . . . The best elements of Moning’s sensual, shadowy epic are still here, from the sensual and enigmatic Fae to the super-alpha heroes and the breathless pace of their escalating conflicts. At its heart is a heroine whose development is likely to become the stuff of legends as this unforgettable, haunting series continues to evolve.”RT Book Reviews

“This is one of my favorite 2012 reads . . . It’s engaging, hilarious, amazing and Dani is going to be one heck of a woman.”USA Today

“A gripping story that combines excellent storytelling with believable characters that are rendered both superhuman and superbly human, with emotional fragility and psychological vulnerability in an unstable world fraught with danger . . . Fast-paced, with nonstop action set in a fascinating urban fantasy world of Dublin under siege, this is a smart, bold and textured success.”?Kirkus Reviews

“Moning is a master storyteller. I don’t know how she does it, but she begs me to get on my knees and pay worship to the woman who has brought me the best, most labyrinthine stories and characters I’ve ever had the privilege to get to know. She weaves brilliantly, unapologetically, and without exception, and she has threaded the needle into me and I’ve been pulled, over and over, into her tapestry, and I don’t think...

I don't know what I was thinking, grabbing the first book in a trilogy before the other two come out. I should know better. I can't wait to see where this story goes, but I'm a little weirded out that there are three grown men fighting over Dani when she's only 14. All that "I can see the woman she will become" stuff really doesn't help.

And why in the world did KMM write the whole book in first person using four different people? I have read a couple other books that were written that way, but the chapters were titled so that you knew whose head you were in. Several times, I read several paragraphs thinking they were in Dani's POV, only to have to go back and read them again once I realized that it was someone else. It's disorienting and breaks the flow of the story.

I know it doesn't sound like it, but I did enjoy this book. Now if book #2 would just hurry up and get here...

Updated after reading some other reviews and an interview by KMM: Yes, 14-year-olds have sex all the time. And Dani has had a hard life, yada, yada, yada.
But
1) She is extremely immature and childlike. Being really smart and being able to survive on her own doesn't change that. If she were to have sex with a 14 or 15yo boy, it would be more plausible, and not nearly as icky. But honestly, she's not emotionally ready for sex with ANYONE yet.
2) She has no clue. She's like the kids in Blue Lagoon. She's getting some "tingly" feelings from time to time, but she basically has no clue. And she doesn't understand any of the innuendo flying over her head, even though some of it is pretty blatant.

THIS is why people are freaking out about her being 14. There are THREE grown men fighting over a CHILD. I don't care who you are or what kind of boundaries you think you're pushing, that's just not cool. ( )

I loved the Fever series. I devoured all 5 books in no time. I kinda liked Dani as a character in the series. I loved the interaction with Mac and Barrons. I loved reading about the Fae and K'Vruck. I was so excited to hear about a new installment in the series. I was a bit hesitant, since i knew Dani would be the main character. i thought i could ignore my dislike for this characters narration and focus on the other participants and the continuation of the story.
I tried, i tried, i tried. It took me over 2 weeks to get to 20% of reading the book. Today, I have decided to let it be. I don't like leaving unfinished books, but at 40% in the storyline, still nothing much has happened. You read about Dani freeze framing and h saving Dublin etc, etc, etc.

The story is being narrated by 3 characters: Dani, Kat and Christian. It makes it a bit difficult while reading, to switch gears. I wish she would have continued in the same style as the rest of the series. I am afraid, i wont continue this series, if the Dani line is the only line the author continues. ( )

Story was fun, but Dani is kind of an annoying protagonist. But she's also 14, so maybe she can't help it? I was definitely not a fan of the pov swaps, what was the point? I don't even like 1st person, but I do prefer to stay in 1 character's head. Two is even okay, when stage time is more evenly divided, but when it's random like it is here, it feels like a ploy to avoid info-dumping or something.

I have some thoughts about Ryodan's motivations. We'll see if they pan out. ( )

Since I just completed the 6th book in the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning, it’s safe to assume I’m a fan. However, I put off reading this book for a long time and did not rush to read it as soon as it was released.

Here’s the thing, every book by KMM ends with a nasty cliff hanger. You WILL want to keep reading the series, so it’s good to go in prepared. Make sure there’s more to read. Also, after reading 5 books back to back, I needed a break from the storyline.

As it turns out, I liked this book much better than I thought I would. Books 1-5 take place from Mac’s point of view and quite frankly, I think Mac is quite annoying. She spends just a wee bit too much attention on her outfit, hair color, and nail color for my taste. Okay, way too much. Dani is a very small character in those books but a little bit of Dani goes a long way - and this book - Iced (Fever #6) takes place mostly from Dani’s point of view. I thought I’d hate it.

Surprisingly, I loved it. Dani is much better as a main character than a side character, and I took my time reading this book since I knew it would end in a cliff hanger… and the next book was just released (last week) and figured I’d want to read it immediately - and then the NEXT book isn’t even written yet.

I waited until I finished reading ICED to see what the next book was about (to avoid spoilers) and I have to say, I’m upset! Books 6,7 and 8 were supposed to be Dani’s story, as Mac has had more than enough time in the spotlight with Books 1-5. BUT… Book 7 shifts away from Dani and goes back to Mac! I don’t want to read any more books about Mac! I’m Mac’d out!

In ICED, Dani is 14 years old and I can only assume KMM jumped back to Mac for Book 7 to let Dani age - because she needs her to be older for the things that will definitely be coming her way - but I’m not happy about the change. Of course, I still want to read BURNED, and I plan to, but I’m grumpy about the change. I just got to know and like Dani as a character and I’d like to continue going through her story as KMM originally planned.

I definitely recommend this book to fans of Paranormal Fantasy, but these are not stand-alone books. You’ll want to start back at the beginning with Book 1…

Happy reading! ( )
