The Night Before Christmas is a classic. I enjoy it and I think it will be a regular one in the Christmas rotation. However, Jan Brett's illustrations (in this case) are not my favorite. Even Scott made the comment that they were a bit too old fashioned, too busy, for his tastes. While that works in other Jan Brett texts, I don't love that when I am reading The Night Before Christmas. My rating for this is more like a 2.5. A classic poem with colorful illustrations Tells children the story of Santa Claus arriving for Christmas with fun poetic rhymes Fun for families and children of all ages to read during the most wonderful time of year This would be fun to read as a concrete poem Teaches children about the Christmas holiday geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Jan Brett graces Moore's poem with his sumptuous illustrations, managing to slip in a visual sub-plot about a cat, a pug, and two mischievous elves as a bonus. ( )
