For Samantha Moon, being a mom of two, the wife of a cheating sleazeball, and a private investigator is hard work. Not to mention the fact that she's also a vampire and can only work nights. Yepp, that's right, a mommy vampire. Who would've thought? Sam was attacked 6 years ago while out on a nightly jog when she was attacked by something much stronger than she anticipated. Before she could gather her barrings and reach for her gun, the thing attacking her had already ripped open her throat and left her to die. Now trying to balance the life of a mom and being a kick ass private investigator with heightened abilities, Sam is still trying to come to terms with herself... her freakishly new self. I absolutely loved all these books. Samantha Moon is my new favorite fictional character. Right from the first sentence, of the first chapter, of the first book, I knew I was going to be a fan of this series. The romance in these books are there, but not the main topics that are brought to the forefront. Which I love. (even thought I'm a lover of everything dealing in romance) Following Samantha's journey through her vampirism, her job as a p.i. and her life as a mother, who is still trying to provide for her kids every which way she can, kept me turning the page. It helps that there are a few hunks mentioned in the books, one of them being a shaggy werewolf. The dialogue in these books kept me laughing for days! All the witty comments between the characters really brought the book to life. What I like and didn't like about these books is the same thing. Talk about a double edged sword. I both liked and disliked the fact that the author used references to the stuff we use/talk about/hear about in our daily lives. Here's why I liked it... I liked it because it gave me a sense of time. When the author mentioned Charlie Sheen, Facebook, Lindsey Lohan, etc. It felt as if I was there in the book... or me living in LA County, I can be all... "Oh so that was that big black thing I saw soaring in the sky that night." Now, for that double edged sword. I disliked it, because I couldn't care less about those "reality" bits that were thrown in. I'd rather be so deep in the book without being pulled out by those little reminders that this is just a fictional book. That might make sense or that might not. Like I said, double edged sword and all. All in all, I thought this series was great and I will be itching to get my hands on Book #5 "Vampire Dawn" If you haven't read this series or never heard of it, I suggest you do so now! You will not regret it. Samantha Moon vampire for hire 4 Stars Moon dance is the first novel in this series. I liked it in fact I even cried in one part.(but that could be because my daughter left yesterday for 18 month mission so it hit harder.) Samantha Moon is a vampire for 6 years after attack. She is a wife, mother and a private detective. In this case a lawyer who was shot a bunch of times and survived hired her to find his shooter. He has his own problems and guessed hers. A police detective was guessing her real problem too. Her husband was having an affair and she turned him off. I wanted to hit him. I really got into the story and can't wait to start the next one. Vampire Moon book 2 Vampire for hire Samantha is hired to protect a women whos husband beat her and after he got free attacked her again and killed her father and crippled her mother. Hes in prison but keeps hiring killers to kill her. another case a man hires her to help prove a mob boss killed all the wittness in a plane crash. I enjoyed it, left in a cliffhanger. But this collection I could just keep reading. American vampire book 3 vampire for Hire She learns who fang is and Samantha doesn't sure how she feels about him . A five year old girl calls her that a bad man killed her mommy and hurts her/ Samantha is determined to find her and keep her safe. Samantha son is very sick and Samantha has to make a hard decision. Moon Child Vampire for Hire book 4 Samantha son Anthony was dying and the doctors could not to anything. Samantha knew she could save him by turning him to vampire and maybe turning him back with the medalion if she can figure out how. Another little boy who was moved into Anthony old room was kidnapped from the hospital by a very old vampire who wanted to die and could do it with the medalion. Samantha had lots of choices to make in this book. It is very compelling I dont want to put the book down. Christmas Moon Vampire for Hire book 4.5 & Vampire Dreams are really short stories that are at the end of the first 4 books of the series. Over all I have really enjoyed the series. I have read the whole 4 books + in two days. I will look out for more books by J.R. Rain in the future. I was given this ebook to read and in exchange for my honest review by Netgalley. 06/5/2012 PUB BenBella Books geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

The other thing that bothered me was Sam's relationship with Fang, who she discovers is hiding some secrets of his own. I don't want to reveal spoilers so I won't go into detail, but I found it troubling that she simply accepts his past without questioning him about what he has done and why and simply buys into him being a good guy despite everything she learns about him. Just seemed bizarre and a little creepy to me.
The writing was okay. It was somewhat repetitive, especially at the start of the various novels/stories - in fact at one point it was so similar a start that I thought I had already started that story but I hadn't, it was just that similar. The writing seems somewhat simplistic and stilted in parts, although it does flow in others so there seems like there's potential there but maybe the author needs to find a better editor to bring out better writing? There's some great ideas in the books but too much feels like the author has just thrown as many strange things as he can into the pot without real development and it doesn't feel like there's strong planning and research behind it, which I think lends to all the inconsistencies that arise. Also, the endings are sometimes tied up with convenient simplicity that doesn't ring true at all and very little explanation.
That said, if you feel like a fast and simple read and see it for a good price, it might fit the bill. I don't think I will bother with the other books in this series unless I happen upon the book for pennies and feel especially curious that day. There are so many amazing books to read out there that it feels like a crime to waste time with one that really doesn't measure up. (
