Un jeune geek maigrichon achète une méthode pour devenir costaud et devient... super méga costaud. Evidemment, il y a un prix à payer...

Cette exploration de la genèse super-héroïque va davantage dans le sens de Superior de Mark Millar que de la trilogie de Warren Ellis (No hero, Black Summer, Supergod) ou encore A god somewhere d'Arcudi & Snejberg : à la fois iconoclaste et respectueux. C'est percutant, très violent, très très sanglant, sur un ton proche de Kick Ass (le mode de progression est similaire, et on retrouve des situations identiques) et ça devrait se terminer dans une unique suite. Les graphismes sont très typés cartoon, avec des visages allongés et des expressions exagérées, mais ça favorise les grands élans dans les combats, les découpages, lacérations et démembrements en tout genre... Les dialogues sont crus, comme du Bendis trash, et souvent drôles.

I'm not sure if it has been written as a satirical mockery of the ridiculous superhero fantasy of fame and power and purpose through superpowers, or if it is serious. But whatever, it's pretty hilarious, and for all the trashiness it was extremely well done. ( )

Yeh, no. I must have been in a mood for violence when I went looking for graphic novels the other day. In some ways the blood and gore are cartoonish but it's still violent and rather sad.

This is about a high school nerdy kid who gets bullied, decides to do a "Charles Atlas" kind of thing and ends up becoming so buff with super powers that he can kill easily without getting hurt himself.

And then things go from bad to worse. . . .And there's some guy called The Librarian who can kill so easily and I have no idea whose side he's on. I thought he was on Luther's side. Maybe he's just an incarnate form of evil?

The Strange Talent of Luther Strode is an Anti-Hero comic that borderlines to gore-horror due to the graphic violence. Justin Jordan is clearly influenced by Grant Morrison works and is not ashamed of it, as he cites works of his mentor in the book. As a result, Luther Strode may be his vision of Flex Mentallo, as a fan-fiction turned true, but with good results. It leaves some open issues, creating a cliffhanger for the next volume.

Tradd Moore's art is awesome and is responsible for the good result of the project as he has good storytelling and composition, not to say that he can beautifully depict disgusting situations, what is a paradox.

Can't wait for the next book. ( )
