With two cassettes running to 180 minutes, it is highly abridged. However, it manages to capture the basic outlines of the plot, in part by omitting Scott's lengthy descriptions. Unlike some BBC radio productions, the work is not a dramatization. It is narrated by the well-known actor Christopher Lee, who does a good job at capturing the drama and by rendering the characters' voices in distinctive styles. I confess that I tended to get a few of the characters confused, mainly because of my unfamiliarity with the French (Norman) names.
