What a sweet little winter story. ( )

Children's lit. An author looks back on memories surrounding various icescapes from her childhood. Quaint and mildly charming, but not super impressive. ( )

It's not exactly a chapter book. It's more of a series of vignettes about...well, ice. I took a few pages to get into it; but once the ice became skate-able and the family built their own backyard ice rink, this ten-minute read was lovely and sweet.

Grown-up portion of review:

This one has a handful of Newbery buzz. The writing is deserving, but I don't think there's quite enough book in this book to warrant such a high honor. ( )

Cute book , but I guess you would have to had been there to enjoy the saga of ice. ( )

Obed's gentle prose presents us with a winter wonderland so enchanting and appealing that kids everywhere, even in Hawaii, will yearn for their own season of ice. Unforgettably lovely. ( )
