I cried multiple times. I clutched my chest at least thrice. Sherry Thomas, you are tearing me apart!
The secondary love story was a waste of my time (the couple have their own book next so their story did not deserve so much space here) and our arrival at the conclusion was a bit rushed but oh my god I don't even care because this was magnificent. ( )
Sweet and sad...the story of a man and woman forced to marry and endure a marriage that is only friendship. She of course, falls for him, while he pines for his one true love. I felt so sorry for Millie, as she kept hiding her love for her husband. What a sad life.
But is there a happy ending? No spoilers here...you must read to find out!! ( )
Thomas is a good writer, this whole scenario just isn't my cup of tea. I don't mind an arranged marriage, OR love at first sight, OR unrequited love, OR second chance where half the book is in the past and it bounces back and forth, OR 'other woman' issues, OR characters being young and immature- but all combined it is just too many things I don't enjoy. I dislike when the characters forever stand in their own way, and both of these MCs really do. They could have avoided literal years of pain if they'd just been able to get their act together the tiniest bit. Also, the other woman drama lasts for all but like the last half of the last chapter of the book or something. It's ridiculous. I wanted to shake them all until they did better, =P. But, I did like how the main couple learned to work together and be partners, and that they were friends, and that that ended up counting for more than the more flashy stuff. ( )
