I liked this, it was a cool way to show the 1st book with some fillers that weren't in and the art work is pretty amazing ( ) Not sure where to begin. Aphrodite is her normal slur-tossing spoiled self with insecurities galore. They stay strong to the fundamentals. Vampyres have to get permission to feed, the feeding is not painful but pleasurable and gentle on the senses. They have been hunted and hurt for a long time on account of what they are. And Zoey is capable of learning each element. Seeing Stevie Rae, I both love how she looks and it does not match how I always saw her in the books, which might be good, as I always saw Stevie being of colour and she does die, and now realizing the cast is mostly Caucasian and Native American, it would not make sense for her to be that, but I'll always enjoy that mental image of her being less pale and being a bad ass. More colour representation is always a big draw for me. As is to be expected, the Reverend of Tulsa and his followers hate the vampyres. People of faith oppose the magic and the school, which is rather fun to see in art form. I've always had an issue with the way they came off as a teenager, but growing up and seeing the hatred towards LGBT and their protests I can now safely say how Zoey's stepfather is presented here is pretty on point. Zealous hatred and brainwashing is something vastly overlooked. Though this is not for faint of heart at all, the stories shown in this book are full of rape, sexism, suicide, death, hate, and more. It's a lot of raw imagery to take in and some might churn your guts to even behold. I'd say minus gore, a lot of the stories hit close to what Stephen King has pulled off in ways. Dark, depressing struggles and wholly terrible situations. Oh and sex, there is a loooot of sexual stuff in this book. One line I really love is Lady Circe saying, "Control your men so I don't have to." Seeing the history somehow pushed into a thin illustrated book like this is amazing. I know this is issues one through five in one book, and I hope there are more than this. P.C Cast has been doing a good job with this series for a long time now. High School, it’s full of teen angst and drama. This school has a bit more drama than most. Vampyres have feelings too you know ! Aphrodite (ex leader of the Dark Daughters) and the Hags from Hell hate Zoey Redbird, especially now that she is the leader of the Dark Daughters. Aphrodite has made it her mission to make Zoey’s life miserable. Dealing with Aphrodite is bad but becoming a leader is really frightening. She looks to her Goddess and her friends for help. Her friends and her set out to read the Dark Daughter’s manual because , well they have not ever read it before. It is filled with stories of the past. Zoey asks for help from Nyx the Vampyre Goddess of Night. Nyx gives her 5 lessons to learn to help her become a leader. The stories were interesting based on basic moral values. The illustrations a bit crude for my taste but they did the job of visually telling the story. Anyone who follows this series would enjoy the look at their favorite characters. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
