I liked the characters but I thought the romance was a bit unrealistic. That may be because the author wants to make it more like a fairy tale (love at first sight, happily ever after) than a realistic romance.

For some reason when I read the back blurb, I thought Nicki and Garrett had met some time in the past and that he was now coming back to find her. Instead, he meets her in this book and in the space of a short time (only a few days?) falls in love with her and proposes. The book starts out with Nicki thinking about fairy tales. Then she sees Garrett outside her house and thinks he's a prince out of a fairy tale.

Nicki's and Reno's mother Lillian hires Garrett to drive her to Dry Creek and get her there by Thanksgiving. She thinks she's coming to see her husband. For some reason, her husband (who is now deceased) told her that Nicki and Reno had taken off and he had no idea where they were (it doesn't seem they ever did take off and leave the ranch from what I can tell, unless one or both of them went away to college and then came back). Why he told their mother this is not ever explained.

Nicki's a strong woman. She has a connection to the ranch that she doesn't want to lose. She also can do ranch work. Some men would probably find that threatening.

So Garrett and Lillian arrive a day or two before Thanksgiving. Lillian resurrects the old tradition of having the entire town to the ranch for Thanksgiving dinner and organizes the whole thing. (The only ones who seem to mutter a bit are the pastor and his wife who end up preparing the green beans.) and by the end of the Thanksgiving meal, Garrett has decided to propose to Nicki and then race off in his truck when she tells him no. I've heard of people knowing right at the start that the other person was "the one" but from meeting to proposal in 2-3 days seems a bit unrealistic to me.

Nicki's brother Reno had taken a load of cattle to Billings for sale. He ends up meeting Garrett's cousin Chrissy, who is on her way to Dry Creek, on the road after his truck breaks down. For whatever reason, although Reno probably has a key to the house, after they arrive, they stay the night in Garrett's truck instead of going into the house. Yes, it's a nice touch to have Nicki see it and wonder again if she's "seeing things" through the kitchen window, but . . . It leaves me wondering about the "clean" part of this romance (especially given the sneak peek at the next book which is included in the back of this one) since it could open Reno up to accusations of taking advantage of Chrissy. Lite fluff, but good story line ( )

This was a fun story to read. I started reading this series with book 5 and although it alluded to other characters in the story that I am sure were stories from books 1-4, I didn't feel lost or confused by jumping in at book 5.

I thought the author did a fun job of beginning this story. Nicki Redfern wakes up dreaming about a handsome prince charming and "lo and behold" she looks out her window in the wee hours of the morning and sees a prince charming standing outside! (He is really a chauffeur but it was so much fun to read the whole scene taking place).

Garrett is the handsome prince charming and is doing a favor for a friend. He is a truck driver and not one who stays in one place very long, versus Nicki who is a small town girl who has no desire to leave town. It is fun watching the town folks "help" the romance along. This was a lighthearted romance that was fun to read. You know how it will end, but enjoy watching it all take place. The folks of Dry Creek will quickly grow on you. I look forward to reading more of the small town happenings of Dry Creek. ( )

The book ws about a girl name is Nicki. Nicki needed hired hand, no t some fair-tale prince. Nicki brother wanted to leave her alone. Garrettt look at her. She seemed dazed. Princr Charming didn't go into the kitchen, but he came close enough to the door to feel the heat. Garrett felt a clutch in his stomache at nicki words. Nicki look at her mom incrdulously. lillian took off but she came back. She said sorry. the book was good. other people should read it.
