This book would be a good book for teaching how to make simple lines of poetic verse. It is a book about all the joys of living with a little dog, and the antics they can get into. The poetry does not rhyme but does show how to use sound of words and rhythms. On some pages are arranged in some interesting ways such as on Page 7 when a poem about the morning nap is spiraled in the center of the page as it describes how a little dog turns in the sunlight in circles to lie down in the perfect little sunny spot. The visual tool of the spiral could be fun to teach a child how to write about something that spins, or spirals, It would be fun to come up with different fun ways with the students on using visual stylization with the poetry. I absolutely adored this book! It entails poems about the day of a girl and her best friend, who happens to be her dog! The illustrations are super cute and reading this book made me want to cuddle my dogs at home! I think all pet owners should read this book--it'll definitely make you appreciate your pets and their quirks. My two favorite poems were "Leaving" and "Bedtime" because my dogs hate it when we even hint to leaving and my dog sleeps with me at night and my moms dog sleeps with her! ( )

I'm not afraid to say that I read these to my not-so-small dog and I loved them (Sophie, on the other hand, didn't seem to care.) It follows the day-to-day life of Little Dog as he barks, sniffs, and plays. The art is so cute in this one, with pretty watercolors and an even cuter dog. I liked the "Morning Nap" poem the best, because it curls around like Little Dog when he sleeps. It's a great idea, getting into the mind of a dog. ( )

Summary:
This book is a gathering of many collections of poems written by Kristine O’Connell George. All of the poems follow a dog on everything he/she experiences during his days. The book is told from the point of view of the owner who is a little girl. The poems in the book do not rhyme, however, what makes it poetry is how it is written/printed in the book.
Rhyme Patterns:
There are no rhyming schemes or patterns in this collection of poems.

~~ Morning Nap
-This poem is about how the dog curls up in the sunlight and takes a nap. The words are written in a cool, little, swirly pattern that shows how the dog is curling up.

~~ Mail Delivery
-Each of the last five words, in the poem, are stretched out in a way to add more exaggeration to the poem. By doing this, it shows the readers how the dog is delivering the mail one letter at a time.
“one
letter
at
a
time.”

~~ Air Traffic Control
- The poem starts off with “Shhhh” which sets off a quiet mood to the poem, especially for children. In the poem, the dog is resting after chasing airplanes in the sky. Is it a real plane or a toy plane flying?… the answer lies within the reader's imagination.

~~ Obedience School
- This poem is written in couplet; which don’t rhyme. ( )

This poetry book is a collection of poems all about the life of a little dog. Many of the poems typed in creative ways including falling words and spirals. The book is from the point of view of the little girl who owns the dog. It is an innocent look at the life of a dog, including saying goodbye and stealing socks.

I loved this book. I was a huge fan of Shel Silverstein books as a kid and I was always looking for more poetry. What I like about these poems is that they are all related and perfectly simplistic for children. It tells a story without going in any sort of order, each poem being a different aspect of a dog's life. I think this book is perfect for introduction to poetry in classrooms. Every child could analyze a page each. I loved that the pictures were a simple as the poems themselves. I think it fits together perfectly.
