3.5 stars.

On the whole I liked this book. It's strong point was the realistic relationship between the hero and the heroine. It was a nice gentle falling into friendship and then love between two nice people. The gruff hero was particularly fun to read about. The conflict was all external and that is where the book lost some points. Both of them had something to hide and what they were hiding was really not all that dreadful. in fact I would have enjoyed it a lot more if in fact he had had an bastard child or two amongst the lot of kids he was supporting. It would have been different at least.

Also problematic was the tone of the book. The author was trying too hard to make it period style comedy of manners that the story telling got lost in a bit of stilted language. ( )

I’m actually going to round up to 4 stars on this one. The plot has some holes and points that stretch believability beyond my typical comfort level, which often bothers me, but I enjoyed the characters together so I decided to just take the story as if it were a play. When everything aligns conveniently at the end of a play I don’t scoff and think ‘likely story!’ lol, I just take it for what it is. And for what this is, I enjoyed it. ( )

I have enjoyed all of Grace Burrowes' Windham series, and Lady Louisa's story is my favorite. She is super intelligent and awkward, and her knight is just as awkward, and can't understand why everyone thinks Louisa should dumb herself down to find a husband. It is a regency novel for nerds! And Burrowes' characters are witty and clever, and the sexy parts are super sexy, and it is all much less misogynistic than so many other regency novels--including the Bridgerton series--that proport to be historically accurate. I wish Netflix would have made this series into a TV show instead! ( )

Lady Louisa is finally getting her man, not that she was looking though. All the sisters seem to be happy with what they have at the moment. Let' start.

There are secrets, but to be honest, the secrets in this series are all pretty lame. Though I did like her secret, that made sense with her choices. We learn it almost at once too. Joseph's secret, oh that was the lame one, I did not know why he even bothered with that one. But then this is not about secrets. For me these books are about romance.

Louisa needs a knight in shining armor and her widowed neighbor Sir Joseph comes to the rescue. They are already acquainted, but here they learn to know each other better, and fall in love.

The story worked (even if his secret was lame but he is a man so they are all silly ;). The love grows and I could see it. Sure it all takes place during a short period of time but still it works. And as always the book is light and so easy to read that the pages just fly by. You have to read on.

A nice historical romance(less) ( )

This book is dedicated to my brother Tom, one of those rare people who can say the exact, kind, honest thing you badly needed to hear that you didn't know you needed to hear. Whatever your're dealing with, Tom can bring both humor and wisdom to the situation. Chicky, you were right: the peep-peeps do pop poo all over.
