The message shows that while someone is going through a tough situation they can meet great people in the same time frame. The people will be very helpful with the situation and make the person feel a lot better. The book could be used for friendship and caring to show students that whether they think they can figure out their problems on their own, sometimes you just need a help of hand. It will make life much easier and the person will feel relief.

This story has simple words and sentence structure but it introduces some spanish words. It also introduces the idea of living among people of different cultures. The children in the story help Juanito to find his dog which shows the development of friendship and kindess to others.

This is a great book for many reasons. It is a good book to read at the beginning of the year when every one is nervous and making new friends. It would also be helpful to read when learning about Hispanic culture.

This book is about an eight year old Puerto Rican boy named Juanito who just moved to New York and does not have any friends yet. To make things worse, his dog, Pepito, has already run away. He decides to go around town with a 'missing dog' sign to look for Pepito; however, he finds it difficult because he cannot speak english. Eventually, he goes inside a bank where he finds a person who speaks both spanish and english and who shows Juanito how to change the writting on his sign from spanish to english. Then, Juanito walks around town showing his sign to several people. While on this search, the list of descriptive things the people ask him about his dog grows. Before long, a police office approaches Juanito and explains that he has found Pepito. Juanito, along with his new friends, take Pepito back home.
This is a good book to read to students in first grade through fourth grade. A perfect time to read this is when students are learning about the spanish culture, or even when they are learning certain words in spanish, because this book is based on a boy who speaks only spanish. The story includes several spanish words and gives their meaning in engish, which I really liked. Another good time to read this book is toward the beginning of the school year because it has to do with a young child making new friends, which is what most children are trying to do at the beginning of the school year.
