"You can't tell the story of how it all began for supernatural cops Ivy Tamwood and Rachel Morgan without telling how it all nearly ended. The fiery living vampire and erstwhile earth witch never asked to be paired up in the first place. And having to work Inderland Security's crummiest beat busting two-bit paranormal street punks sure didn't sweeten the deal. But when it counts, Ivy and Rachel always have each other's backs. They'd better because someone just hung targets on both of them. t doesn't take a hotshot homicide detective to know that nearly getting flattened by a falling gargoyle or impaled by a lead pipe aren't on-the-job accidents. But it doesn't seem possible that the class of crooks Ivy and Rachel routinely collar could kill anything but brain cells. So who put Cincinnati's tough and tender twosome on their to do in list? Is Ivy's vampire master, the powerful and seductive Piscary, jealous of her growing bloodlust (and just plain lust) for Rachel? Or have forces unknown living or undead made the partners prey in a deadly witch (and vampire) hunt? efore this case is cracked, Ivy and Rachel will face down vicious dogs, speeding locomotives, rogue bloodsuckers… (meer)

This is the first book I've read for the 2016 Reading Challenge.
Synopsis: Ivy and Rachel are partners in a detective/bounty hunter business. Ivy is a living vampire (one born with the virus) while Rachel is a witch. Together they work with local law enforcement agencies to counter threats of both mundane and supernatural origin. However, Piscary (a master vampire) still has Ivy in his power, thus he's still abusing her psychologically if not physically. Ivy is struggling to break away from him, but in the process she has to protect Rachel, from Piscary and from her own desire for Rachael's blood. Under attack from an unknown vampire, neither Ivy nor Rachel know which of them is the intended victim.
Review: If you haven't read any of the Hollows books, then the introduction of this graphic novel is very helpful in setting the story line. If you are familiar with the series, the intro provides some background into Piscary's reasons for wanting to control Ivy. The graphics fit nicely with the story and support the mood and setting. The afterward showcases the production of a graphic novel, explaining just how the author, illustrator and colorist interact to make the images fit the action. This is far more sophisticated than the 'comic books' I read as a kid. ( )

Really well done, and a great bit of back story between rachel and ivy. The only complaint I have is Rachel's boobs are too big, if you've ever read the rest of the books. Jenks wouldn't tease her and tell her she's got "fried eggs" otherwise :P

Earth witch, Rachel and living vampire, Ivy, try to keep the streets of Cincinnati safe for humans. The crime fighting team battle attack dogs, falling gargoyles and humans craving eternal life. This title was not as interesting for me, Ivy's lusting after Rachel was pretty tiresome as well as her weakness toward Piscary. ( )

Interesting graphic novel that tells Ivy's point of view in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison..Blood Work is the first in the graphic novel series and this is the second book. Dead Witch Walking is the first book in the regular Hollows series. It's an adult book but older teens who are into vampires might like this series. ( )
